Enough fucking youngsters, we need experience and fast.

This whole approach of ours is so boring.

Fed up reading about the next star in whatever league.
Exactly. If we really consider spending money on his profile we still have no clue how to build a succesful now competitive squad.

This only makes sense if we're looking to "flip" Dragusin, I'm not sure he's a perfect fit for Ange and he has played well recently so maybe we look for a quick profit on him?

It’s true Khusanov Is right footed but he can naturally play LCB. I feel like some in this thread are being way too critical of the lad. This isn’t an 18 year old with no top flight experience. He turns 21 next feb and is already an integral part of the the third best defence in Ligue 1 - PSG and Monaco are joint 1st with 12 conceded and Lens are 3rd with 14.

Whilst I wouldn’t be looking to bring him in to improve our starting 11, as a 4th choice rotation option (if that is what we are looking for) I can certainly see logic here. Hes a big talent that shouldn’t be dismissed.

That’s not what we need though. He doesn’t have the league experience that Davies has (who has been very good). We also have a shed load of talent at CB but glaring gaps at LB and WF (with our long term injuries).

I guess that comes down to what positions the club are looking for in the upcoming window. I agree that LB is by far the most needed position in defence but if the club are looking for a CB that can add further depth at both LCB and RCB then Khusanov would be a good option. He’s more developed with more high level experience than the likes of Phillips, Dorigton and Vuskovic. Realistically we won’t be finding any seasoned pro of good quality willing to take the 3rd/4th CB spot so bringing in a younger player already playing in a top 5 league that could realistically be pushing for a starting birth in a season or two is somewhat logical.

As has been well covered by now LB and WF should be the priority. I don’t think anyone, including me, disagrees with that but maybe Ange thinks a CB is higher priority due to injuries. I am just simply saying that if hypothetically we want a CB then Khusanov is a solid target given the position in the squad he’d be likely filling. I don’t however think a CB is more of a priority than LB.

maybe a buy and loan back just like we did with Sarr? we need someone to compete with Dragusin next season as Romero is likely to leave and Phillips/Dorrington/Vuskovic may not be ready yet. but then our defence would be even less experienced... :X3:

Hasn’t Ange killed this one by stating we have 6 CBs and the academy?

We’re in an awkward spot with the centre backs since Romero will leave and we have 3 youngsters in that position of which you think at least one of them will eventually make it. Personally I still think we need to bring in a more experienced leader there to replace Romero. Someone like Guehi.

If we don’t get a LCB in January I’d then consider promoting one of those 3 guys (probably Vuskovic) and then Micky will be able to deputise for Udogie at left back. So then we’d have 4 senior CBs plus Vuskovic (and Gray) which should allow Micky to cover the left.

What we definitely shouldn’t be doing is signing 20 year olds in this position if they’re going to hit the budget for players elsewhere. I see no benefit to bringing a 20 year old in unless we are in absolutely no doubt that they will be heading for the very top.

The never ending argument of acquiring players for need or acquiring best players available.
If acquiring for need, you are constantly trying to fill a hole.
If acquiring best player available, you transfer out the least best to fund acquiring shortages elsewhere.
Ange speaks from a manager's POV...which like most managers is a shorter term vision.
A DOF would have a longer term vision and, hopefully, would try to hoover up as much young best player available talents as possible and creating a development plan for each.
We need someone above Lange and below Munn to be this vision without relying on the manager, that could have a vision that lasts as only as long as their contract.
In Khusanov's case, if we are interested, and he is further developed than Phillips or Vuskovic, then he may have a quicker path to first team. Saying that bringing him in blocks development of other players doesn't take into account the fact that squads rarely remain static. Romero, Davies, and even Dragusin all have questions to some degree over their long term futures. There remains the possibility that the back line could be completely rebuilt by 2025/2026.

Not that I think we should be signing this lad but this has to be the biggest myth going about Daniel Levy. I am always at an absolute loss for young players we have bought to sell and made any money on. I cannot think of literally one single player that fits that description and yet somehow this comes up time and again.
We haven't "bought to sell". We have bought young players knowing there's a good prospect of getting our money back if they don't cut it or become so good that "big" clubs come knocking.

Over the last decade, we've made a profit on more than one player per year on average (12 players in 10 years) who had been signed as a youngster:
Bergwijn
Foyth
Trippier
Walker
Wimmer
Bentaleb
Chadli
Stambouli
Holtby
Lennon
Falque
Fryers
Yedlin

However, the reputation for buying young players and selling them for a profit was "earned" during the Arnesen / Comolli era, when we were a "selling club" and squad churn was at an all-time high. For example, we made a tidy profit on all of the following:
Bale
Modric
Huddlestone
Keane
Carrick
Davenport
Ziegler
Edman

Before that, but still under Levy / ENIC, there were players like Jonathan Blondel (18-year-old signed on a free transfer and then sold for a seven-figure sum).

Not one single player though 😅

I'm pretty sure we won't be looking at Ben Davies as a senior option next season, I know Postecoglu respects him highly but he'll know we need to have other options so I guess this is feasible.

Lens will sell either Khusanov or Danso in January. They have to raise 44m net, and don't want to sell both
Some French teams are really struggling financially at the moment, the significant decrease in TV revenue hasn't helped ether. Wouldn't be surprised if we see more established teams collapse like Bordeaux. Lyon for example face relegation if they can't raise enough by next summer, no chance they hold on to Fofana, Cherki etc. I fully expect a fire sale there. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of clubs were sniffing around the French league over the next two windows.
