Recently and more and more often, we're having to deal with people leaving multiple spam ratings in either a tit-for-tat ratings war or just plain vindictive and childish leaving of multiple spam ratings.

The mods have all got better things to do than deal with these petty games, it's tiresome, needless and it's getting out of hand now.

From now on, anyone indulging themselves in this childish behaviour will find themselves banned from SC until at least the transfer window has closed, if not permanently.

I vaguely remember the ratings system was switched once so you could only 'Like' posts and nothing else. Can this be done on the Transfer Rumour forum individually? Just an idea.

Personally I’ve always thought it would be better if the Spam rating was for use exclusively by the mods. Throughout the whole site.

Although I suppose those that want to be childish would just switch to another negative rating instead.

I remember when I first joined actual spam bot accounts were quite common on message boards.

While we’ve got your attention, I’m not an admin so sending me requests to unban you from the transfer forum is the equivalent to sending thoughts and prayers to the victims of shootings. Not going to make a jot of difference.

Could you add a confirmation exclusively for neg reps, like "are you sure you want to leave a spam rating on this post"? Maybe I'm naive but I feel like a lot of negative ratings are done by accident and probably not noticed at the time. Wouldn't help protect against children though.

I have to confess (again) that I very rarely used a negative rating of any description.

However .. I mostly use my iPad when I am on this site and I scroll up with with right hand which sometimes
flicks the ratings cluster. Hence I do give out accidental ratings, most of you guys know I am a divvy, in my defence about once or twice a week I generally check out my 'ratings given' list in my profile and delete any bad 'uns.

Ratings or users?
Ha ha...both

I just think moaning about ratings is pathetic.

They have no effect on peoples lives, why does it matter if someone gets a spam rating or a disagree or whatever. People are so precious.

I'd much rather not have them on the site, it was much better when it was the old rep system. You felt you were rewarded for posting something of quality.

But on the flip side, people handing out spam ratings for the sake of it is childish too.

Any rating system is likely to be subject to abuse by some sections of the community. A&C has made it clear that this behaviour is unacceptable. That works for me.

For me I think it is the consistent malevolent spammers are the most annoying.

The ones I refer to are those lurkers that never have input to any thread on this site.

I honestly believe they are not in tune with the vibe and/or the online personalities that have evolved in here.

The "negative" ratings shouldn't be so close to the quote and reply buttons, ideally.

Exactly this. I tried to give them a taste of their own medicine, but it just gives the staff problems, so I stopped at their behest. It was stupid and childish, I absolutely don't deny it. But I was angry. I've had enough of reading interesting, funny, informative posts and at the bottom it's the same old culprits labelling it Spam. Why? What sin has been committed? The post strayed outside of the topic. Disaster! Someone mentioned something that didn't relate to the transfer of Giovani Lo Celso! Oh, won't someone, please, think of the children!

As I said elsewhere, it's like you're having a conversation in a pub with some mates - the discussion ranges back and forth, you get some jokes and some tongue-in-cheek banter, and at the next table there's a couple of blokes just going 'crap', 'crap', 'rubbish', 'irrelevant'. They're not engaging in the conversation, just passing judgement.
