I was having a discussion with some blokes behind me at the game on Saturday who were saying how brilliant he has become. I pointed out his tackling had improved but he still gave the ball away too easily at times and when he goes forward he leaves us exposed at the back because he thinks like a forward and not a defender, he's often the furthest player forward.
Within seconds he made a great tackle on Benteke in the corner and then promptly gave the ball away to an Everton player on the edge of our box. About 5 minutes later he got caught up front the furthest up front and Everton broke quickly and played a long ball into the space he had left which resulted in a corner.

To be a good/great left back he needs to read the game much better than he does and put defending first. Walker makes poor decisions too but he does have the speed to recover most times where Rose ambles back (he was the last player to get back for the corner )

I think some of you are looking at him through rose tinted glasses :p because he has improved a bit from a couple of seasons ago but he is far from being one of the best in the league.

He needs to screw a defenders head on his shoulders and lose the glory goal one.

Each to their own. Personally I have no problem with us as a team being proactive and taking a few risks.

Rose is one of the very few in our team who can a) sprint, and b) isn't allergic of running into the space ahead of him, be that with or without the ball. The way I see it, if he has had the pace and desire to overtake half a dozen of his team mates and get up in support of attacks, then one or two of those that he has left trailing should then fill in for him.

I like Danny Rose, has improved dramatically over the last couple of seasons - happy to hold my hand up as one of the very few players I have been wrong about.

I think anyone that can tackle Benteke then give the ball to an Everton player is something special.

Liking Danny more than did a few seasons ago merely because he is making more effort to get back into position.

Still think needs to work on his crossing, it can be woeful at times.

I usually give him alot of stick, but he did well v city.

I dont know whether you lot saw it cos it was down the other end in the first half.

One of the city players took him out, he did a roly poly and carried in in his stride. Little fella played his heart out.

A good example of this was against city when he went forward and cut inside in to the middle and though Dier(I think) lost the ball, Harry Kane slotted in to LB whilst Rose was further forward and even tracked back as Rose was running back to position

I have a lot of time for Danny Rose. He to my mind is an unsung hero, gives his very all on the field and is now our longest serving player at the club - it has been great to see him grow in stature from a decidedly inauspicious start. For the first few seasons and up to early 2014, whenever his name was on my lips it was usually accompanied by 'yup, here we go again' howls of anguish that come as standard supporting Tottenham Hotspur. We probably emit our own frequency of despair!
To be fair to Danny Rose he did his growing up in an uncertain and turbulent period of our recent history, with a constantly changing team and plan - if there ever was actually one at all. Now we thankfully have a clear philosophy and stability within the team and Danny Rose has taken to the responsibility of the role with aplomb - he is much less likely to be caught out of position and rarely makes fatal mistakes these days.

The goal he scored against Chelsea in the 5:3 drubbing last year was one of my favourite moments of the season. Total commitment to reaching the ball knowing he was on a painful collision course with Cahill, to then poke the ball through a gap only as big as the ball itself. He got a fairly hefty kick to the noggin for his troubles but he just sprung up and celebrated - he's a tough little nut! He played a big part in that epoch making victory that sowed the first seeds of belief amongst the team that we can beat anyone - and beat them well - that has flourished and is so wonderfully evident this season. I may be biased with my Spurs specs on but surely Danny Rose is worthy of England consideration if he continues playing with such assurance and attacking intent.

What more can Danny Rose do? According to you he not only tackled Benteke (A liverpool player) but tracked back so far he ran all the way to the Everton game to give the ball away?

He has come on a long way and has contributed some goals and assists. He makes more effort to get back now and is also brilliantly supported by Eric Dier helping him get forward. In my opinion his biggest strength is also his biggest weak point. Rose is very aggressive and players don't like playing against him. (Show cased by sterling switching flank after the first half at the weekend. On the flip side this aggression often leads to the niggly free kicks around the box.

I'm really happy with him these days days and Poch seems to be managing him well. I noticed in a video after the City game Poch treated all the players differently (Only slightly) and seemed to give Rose a really enthusiastic well done maybe even slightly more than some of the others.

I like his spirit, no one can take a beating like Rose. The Chelsea game where Cahill (the filthy assbandit) clattered him, the Monaco game where someone splattered his hand and yesterday, where he took a heavier beating than Stalingrad are examples of games where he's taken some hard hits and played through them.

Lovely little nugget.
