I do think people get overly obsessed with trophies, although equally I understand why.
Winning a trophy gives you the day out, gives you that one release of triumph and ultimately gives you a tangible prize. But if you measure your success only by trophies, about 99% of teams in the country may as well give up.
We won a trophy under George Graham. We won one under Juande Ramos. And in a hearbeat I would exchange both of those for the position we currently find ourselves in.
We've done magnificently to (hopefully) finish 2nd when yet again we are financially below five clubs in the division. Yes you don't get a trophy for it, but if Arsenal win the FA Cup at the end of the season, I can still categorically say we've had a much better season than them.
We went out of the FA Cup to the best team in the country right now. It was hardly a disgrace even if it was disappointing.
Our European efforts were the most disappointing for me as that was where we never really seemed to get going, and that is something we need to work on for next season.
But come one...we're the second best team in the country and behind a team that has basically paid it's way to get there yet again. Yes we want trophies, but surely we can enjoy the success in the meantime?
