What’s a Wembley?
It was this wonderful old football stadium, with art deco facades, towers with flags flying... a lost, proud symbol of England and it's Empire.

Now it's a corporate wasteland, identity sold to the unstoppable machine of free market capitalism and brand loyalty as mass slavery, similar to this once great land's slow and inexorable demise into irrelevance.

A shit hole basically.

Spot on. Drives me mad how the media still try and act like players and teams are "relishing the opportunity to play at Wembley". It's not really Wembley, it's not the same "hallowed turf", it's just a generic lifeless stadium with no history. It's like the backup stadiums on Pro Evo that are just called "Municipal Stadium" etc. If I were e.g. a German team I'd be more bothered about playing at Old Trafford, Anfield etc. than at this new Wembley bollocks

You know you've got me thinking; perhaps there should be some sort of provision to turn stadiums into heritage sites, once the resident team decides to move out.

I understand that in reality there are practical reasons why this would be difficult, but it does make you wonder.

In terms of local (and national) history and relevance, some of these stadiums are much more worthy of preserving than other listed buildings.

I mean, if WHL, with all its history, roots to the local community and links to the most popular past-time in the UK (and the rest of Europe) was a town hall or manor house, there's no way the authorities would let it be demolished.

Anyway, perhaps a discussion for another thread...

PS Can't wait to get a chance to go to the new stadium. By all accounts it looks truly awesome!!

So excited. 2 seasons at Wembley made me fall out of love with football. What a horrible soulless bowl. Haven't been this excited for a game since the WHL finale!

That's brought a tear to my eye watching on my lunch break. Going to watch The Lane Finale ceremony prior to the opening one when I get home. Today is a proud day to be a Spurs fan.

I think the most incredible part about it is that when I see photos of NWHL it already looks and feels like home, as if we've been playing there for years. If anything, the videos and images of the old WHL look stranger, despite going so many times and all of the great memories we had there.

It feels like the old stadium never died, it just changed. There's nothing alien about the 'new' ground, it just feels like home.

Also, it helps that I’ve been looking at stadium cams every day for two years now. No wonder it looks so fucking familiar. My youngest turns 2 next month and I don’t even know her that well.

Thanks to Brexit uncertainty just crawled over line and got German second nationality(long hard process)- walk out of building and listen to a long positive report in on the German radio about the fantastic new stadium of Tottenham Hotspur
