I will be gutted if we don’t take the Europa League seriously. We can still give opportunities to young players in that competition but not to the extent of making 8/9 changes every Thursday. If we take it seriously we can win it and I’d love to win that even over the FA Cup.

In the league, Top 4 should be the expectation. Liverpool will drop off a little under Slot, Chelsea and Man Utd who knows(?!), Villa might take a step back as they get to grips with the Champions League. On the other hand Newcastle will likely be very good and benefit from no European games. So I think we’ll be one of 6 clubs competing for 2 spots in the Top 4.

As the squad currently stands, 5th or 6th, we are just too unbalanced and the lack of a specialist striker and a number 6 will cost us. Think we might have a shot at Europa, but progress in domestic cups dependent (as ever) upon us avoiding the big clubs in the early rounds. However if we sort out the squad this might all change for the better!
Striker I get (ish) but it seems clear as day to me that where we are struggling is the left side of defence. Massive void not being filled in the absence of Van de Ven & or Udogie. The lack of defensive depth will cost us the most if we fail to address it. There's plenty of good players we can rely on in midfield now (no need for Skipp & Hojbjerg anymore) so we'll be OK there.

At least up front we have Werner and Kulusevski as alternative options. Lankshear could also break through, so let's see.

1) We carry on conceding from dead balls and crosses and all expect Dragusin to start starting. But he doesn’t. His agent attempts to blow up parliament.

2) We both win and lose a penalty shoot out (not the same one, though that would be interesting)

3) We, and by that I mean Pedro Porro, score a direct free kick in a big game. Not a Harry Winks type either.

4) Gray and Moore get England call ups.

5) We spawn a win against Liverpool in controversial and hilarious circumstances.

Ooo I like this ...

1. Europa League glory
2. Finish higher than Liverpool
3. Gray will usurp seniors to become first choice in midfield
4. Moore plays more than 10 first team games next season
5. > 25 G/A for Brennan

Anything short of the quadruple and Ange out.

I don't care if we win the Premier League, FA cup, and Europa. If he then fails in the League Cup then bye bye. Too long we've accepted mediocrity.

Real 5
- Top 4
- Johnson top scorer with approx 15 of them being tap ins off the right
- Spence is our starting RB by the end of the season
- Kulusevski sold in January
- Despite the hype around others, Alfie Devine is the actual academy player to break out

1. 4th will be an absolute dogfight this year. City and Arse are clear, but Liverpool could be vulnerable post-Klopp, Villa will be there, unfortunately Chelsea and United have got their shit together and got a good coach off the Pep tree and started signing good young players respectively.
2. The kids will shine in the Europa League group stage and a couple of them like Moore, Bergvall and Hall will press the established stars for their positions.
3. Gray will look like a steal by October.

This new format will be a bit of a learning curve for everyone, but the amount of games should be good for the younger players. Ange has his finger on the pulse enough to know this comp is a real opportunity to build something. No big hitters in there, but enough cache to lift the club up and gain momentum l.

I’m expecting us to improve our baseline from last year, look a bit more fluid in the final third, and hopefully concede a lot less! I think we can finish third if things go well for us, I’m not too worried about other teams outside of Arsenal and City. We can be as good or better than anyone else right now.

Predictions:

Johnson will get 10+ PL goals
Gray to be our #6 by December
Bergvall to overtake Sarr/Bentancur
Lankshear ends up being backup 9
Moore first PL goal

We’re stacked in midfield even with PEH and Skipp leaving. Hard to see Hall getting meaningful minutes but I hope you’re right.

And Maresca might be decent but think I’d rather be coming up against him than Poch in his second season.

United will surely be better results wise if not performance wise.

Best chance of CL is winning Europa cos we'll be about 6,7th.
But...we'll take it seriously but lose to a less tired team in Quarters/semis.
Good run in one of the cups, maybe even a final but won't win.
We discover Son, like Kane, is well past his best.
Gray, Bergvall and Moore will be established first team squad by season end.

That is probably about right considering how we finished last season and haven't strengthened the first 11 yet.

Need to see how we shape up after the window closes
We wont finish below Man utd- they are really bad, other than a meagre handful of (mainly younger) players. . A couple of decent games (cup final and Liverpool in cup) does not change that

Feeling positive, but as the squad stands right now today:

Top 3 in the league.
Make the final of the Europa.
Lankshear, Moore and Donley get meaningful minutes and shine.
Johnson is our top scorer.
Win the League Cup.

Peps last season under city could see them drop off their normal standards.

Liverpool have a new coach so could go either way.

Personally, I think that leaves the title wide open for a two way fight between arsenal and us.

Arsenal favourites this year as much as it pains me to say.

Predictions for me are

Top 2 league finish.

A cup trophy.

Young player of the year (bergvall potentially).

That's about as far as I can get with a really positive outlook on things, as normally I'm a little more realistic.

Over everything, I just want us to win something, absolutely anything to get that monkey off our backs, so to speak.

  1. We get top 4
  2. We get better defensively and continue to develop our style
  3. We don't win anything
  4. Our under-21 players establish themselves with decent minutes and set us up for a big jump the season after with at least 3-4 being starters on merit (not due to lack of transfers)
Season after: we win something and are pushing for the league until the last month (and I'm a pessimist)

I think if that is how things pan out, I’m not sure Ange would have the fans on side and he would be well and truly on the hot seat, Unless, the football is sooooooo good or the core of the team for the season is made up of academy graduates.
