Bit of history here in an old super 8mm film (no sound) of the residents of Tottenham celebrating the cup win followed by the open top bus going down the High Road. I'm in that crowd somewhere as my Dad and my Grandad took me at the tender age of 8 down to see the trophies being paraded. Good memories.

That's wonderful and terrible all at the same time. Wonderful to see tottenham in '61 in colour and how it was back then.

Terrible to see how normal and nice it was compared to the fucking shit hole it's become. I hate every minute of the walk from seven sisters to the stadium. It's like a third world country.

Slight exaggeration...

My rattle was better than yours. I had "SPURS" sign written on mine plus I stuck a head shot of each player on it. So there young lady !

No it wasn't. Mine was painted blue and white with ribbons on it and it was hand made for me by a friend's brother

So there.

I was13 at the time and remember it like yesterday.
They were a wonderful team and so far better then any other in the league that it was impossible to think that I would live to be 67 now and not see them win another league trophy.
You have to remember that but for some freak results over the Easter period in the previous year we would have won the league and also won it in the next year but for having a massive amount of fixtures due to the European Cup and getting to the final of the FA Cup again.
The biggest disappointment was in the following season when we were knocked out by Benfica in the European Cup, or should I say cheated out of the game by two horrific refereeing decisions. To this day I'm convinced they were bribed.
Had they have won the European Cup that year then I'm convinced that would have been the start of a dynasty that would have made them the biggest club in England and possibly in the world.
Sadly it was not to be.

It reminds me of how big the FA Cup was - even n 81 the High Rd was done up as were a load of the houses, the Whitehall Estate just over the road from the British Queen and WHL station was all covered in bunting as were most of the local pubs.

Always remember queuing for the replay tickets on the Sunday in the rain after the first game. The queue went all the way down Park Lane and back down Northumberland Park to the High Rd.

As a Tottenham local back in the day there really is nothing like coming back home after winning a cup - sadly those memories are blurred with alcohol and I don't remember an awful lot after most of the cup wins probably as the sense of anticipation was so great you feel like you have played in the bloody game

Well yea.

Should have won the league in 59/60 apart from those freak results at Easter then we would have been at the peak of our powers in the European Cup the next year although yes something dodgy went on vs Benfica. I was at both games.

The other freakish occurrences of course were Dave Mackay's twice broken leg and John White's death which added to Danny Blanchflower's advancing years were just too much and robbed the team of its heart beat.

My old Dad made my rattle so I think that puts me right up there on the leaderboard.

Also, at home, I have a rosette from the 1961 Cup final with a little tin cutout of the FA Cup on it, and the songsheet from the final too. I think we used to have the programme, but that was lost a long time ago.

FA Cup was as big if not bigger than winning the league and the Cup Final occasion was massive. All that pre match singing with Arthur somebody too. Abide With Me !

That takes me back. I can remember following the bus all the way from Edmonton Town Hall.
