15. “Ideas are very funny things. They never work unless you do.”

14. “Winning isn’t everything, but wanting to win is.”

13. “Everything in our favour was against us.”

12. Spurs Director: “The trouble with you is that you think you know all the answers.”
Blanchflower: “Ah, God love you, you don’t even know the questions.”

11. “If we don’t know what we’re going to do, how can the other side?”

10. “We aim to equalise before the other team score. We should get our retaliation in first.”

9. Interviewer: “Well Danny, what is the secret to the Spurs winning every match so far this season?”

Danny: “Most probably because in each match we have scored more goals than our opponents.”

8. “He is a self-made man who worships his creator.”

7. “Football is a simple game made complicated by people who should know better.”

6. Duchess of Kent (at 1961 FA Cup Final): “Why do the other team have their names on their tracksuits and yours’ don’t?”
Blanchflower: “Ah well, ma’am, you see we all know each other.”

5. “Hoddle? No, it’s the bad players who are a luxury.”

4. “Whether you’re a player, manager, trainer, director, supporter, reporter, kit man or tea lady, football possesses the power to make the week ahead sparkle with a sense of joyous well-being.”

3. A young Nobby Stiles: “Blanchflower, you’re finished!”
Blanchflower: “Excuse me son, I haven’t read the programme yet. What’s your name?”

2. “We’ve got a good side here. We will win the double this season (a successful prediction in 1960).”

1. “The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom.”

My favourite, on being asked to predict whether Spurs will win their next game, "I don't know, that's why we're playing the match."

It was a travesty that he didn't replace Nicholson when he retired, we could have built a legacy.

Love no 6. I think that respresents our current team down to a T right now.

This is seriously genius:

“He is a self-made man who worships his creator.”

Anyone know the context? Was it intended as an insult?

Was going to pick a favourite but I can't.
I've always liked his reply to the Duchess of Kent
but the most inspiring ones are:
!,14 and 4 and which have always been my attitude to Spurs
and fit our new approach under Pochettino with Youth and The Academy
and not buying Neymar on principle.

The game is about Glory! Love the picture of VDV standing under that in the advertising hoardings with two fingers pointing up. If any player in the last 10 years has embodied that more than Rafa I haven't seen them.

It is genius, though not Blanchflower's. It's been attributed to various others, including Benjamin Disraeli. And before you ask, no he can't play at right back.
