Am I alone in having a secret second team?

I grew up in Barrow and started going to watch Barrow play with my Dad when I was about 7. Barrow were really poor so everyone had a First Division team they followed. I went to Blackpool on a day trip and saw Spurs play in August 1961 and Spurs became my second team.

I moved to London and Spurs became my main team - I’ve had a season ticket for getting on for 30 years.

But I’m still a member of the Barrow supporters’ trust, buy raffle tickets weekly and travel around the south of England to see them play (when there is no clash with Spurs).

My dream is for Barrow to play Spurs in the cup, score first then lose 2-1.

Anybody else have a second team?

I'm from just across the Bay from there (Morecambe).

I had the same dream as you and couldn't believe it when we drew them in the FA Cup a couple of years back and Morecambe were winning at half time. Shame I was on the other side of the world (where I now live) at the time.

Wolves. My Nan was from Wolverhampton and I still have family up there so I look out for their results and when my kids were younger I was happy for them to have the kit (as well as the spurs one).

Borussia Moenchengladbach (so doubly fuck Bayern) and Plymouth Argyle. I used to live in Germany in the mid to late 90’s as my dad was in the RAF, so always look out for them and watch them when I can on

Living in Cornwall, Plymouth are the closest team to me so naturally sort of follow them. Best home kit out this year if I don’t mind saying.

I suspect next season I’ll be following and watching Truro City a lot. Been gradually moving up the leagues and they will be moving back to Truro next year - currently play their home games at Torquay as finally they been giving the go ahead to develop an area of land with Penzance Pirates (Rugby Union) to ground share. Which is really exciting. I love Spurs, love going up to games with the old man, but I’ve become really disillusioned with top flight football and can see myself watching a lot of that.

Like Harry Kane, my dad was posted to Germany in his 30s, and so I grew up near Monchengladbach until I was 11. Therefore they're my Bundesliga team also. So I'm not going to be able to completely ignore our H now he's left.

Their new(ish) stadium is built on the old US Barracks that was our home for 6 months. My school and mam's work was there (albeit no longer) but the flats we lived in still are.

Mine was Lazio after Gazza left. I followed them very strongly watching gazzetta football italia on channel 4 every week. I knew all their players. After about 10 years, the interest started to decrease to the point i dont even know who they are anymore.

I guess many or some of the young Spurs fans may do something similar and adopt Bayarn Munich as their second club now

I went to Griffin Park a few times when I lived in Chiswick. I worked with a couple of ST holders there, and it was always a good experience. Great ground, great fan base, and a pub on each corner.

It was great to be able to stand on the terraces, and the pubs on each corner was good fun as you say.

Leyton Orient my local team as a youngster. I tend just to look for their results these days, I haven’t been to see them for a couple of seasons - they’re pretty good at the moment so I must be a Jonah to them anyway!

Charlton Athletic my Dad settled around there when he came over from Ireland and 2 of my older brothers and an older Sister were born there. (Oldest brother born in Dublin is a Pool fan )
They used to take me when I was younger, was always a good craic.
Saw them at the old Wembley v Blackburn Rovers back in day, Pub Coach Trip from Woolwich with the local Irish Pub…. You can imagine lost as well.
Probably why I converted to Spurs after watching Cup runs on the TV classy.
Was popular with all my Dads mates in all the Irish Pubs around Woolwich
Took my oldest and my nephew to The Valley last time we was back in UK.

I've always considered them my Dutch team, even with so many ties with the Woolwich. It was that early/mid 90s team of the De Boers, Overmars, Davids, Bergkamp, Seedorf, VDS, Litmanen - christ, the more I think about that squad the more names come back! What a team that was... amazing to watch.

Fav players on the team I watched were Van der Vaart and Zlatan

Gillingham, my local team growing up. Acquired in the 90s by a self-interested, money-focused businessman, who could never see that he was largely responsible for most of the club’s problems as time went by, and was untrusted by almost everyone. However, unlike Spurs, the Gills had a change of ownership last year and the mood at the club is very positive, with them going from bottom of the league to being tipped for at least the play-offs this season. New owner seems to understand that success requires investment on the pitch and good communication with the fans…

Born in High Wycombe and went to Wycombe Wanderers before I ever went to Spurs. Martin O'Neill was their manager when I first went in the mid 90s.

Moved to Bergen in Norway as a child so have supported SK Brann since. Think of Newcastle under Ashley and that's about the vibe of that club for most of the last 25 years so it's been turbulent to say the least. One league title in 2007, two bizarre relegations in 2014 and 2021. Though they have got promoted back up and did win the Cup eariler this year so things look better now than they have in a long while.

Basically the only reason I'm Spurs is my dad and his family.
