    2023/24 - The Race For..................

Our record against City, Pool and Arsenal this season doesn’t indicate we’d be out of our depth in CL. We’ve footed it with these teams this season and we’ll be stronger next season.

Werner’s trophy cabinet suggests he can contribute to winning teams.

Player Watch Player Watch: Timo Werner

I like Werner and think we have a free option to see him play out the season and make an informed assessment and decision about whether to exercise the buy option. He’s so far been a mixed bag but with more good games than bad and some telling moments that have won us points. Since Werner has...

    Team for Arsenal....

A lot now depends on whether Porro and Richarlison are fit. Expect Arsenal to be a serious threat to us on set pieces and hopefully the coaching staff take this seriously and we are better prepared. My team for Arsenal is a bit radical but we are currently defensively open, ponderous in...

Player Watch Player Watch: Timo Werner

Think we are in a position of having a front three that really need quicker progression of the ball to get it in space in front of them, but we have a transition from back through midfield that is currently quite deliberate. I think some of the comments from Maddison and Ange allude to the need...

Player Watch Player Watch: Yves Bissouma

I don’t think Bissouma has played with the freedom, swagger or energy he showed in that early season spell prior to his suspension. Having said that the same could be said about Maddison.

    Manager Watch: Ange Postecoglou

I don’t dislike him at all, I just feel he is getting a bit of a free ride and has been badly out of form for sometime. I do have an irrational view that GLC is not getting anything like the game time his cameos have warranted and what seems a much better fit Tactically. Sorry to bore you.

    Manager Watch: Ange Postecoglou

Another week watching Maddison struggle and Ange bringing on an out of form Kulu. For the life of me I don’t get his confidence in these two and his reluctance to give GLC any meaningful minutes. He looks like our only midfielder that has the ability to see passes and move the ball quickly and...

    Match Threads Newcastle vs Spurs

That suggests playing someone that can find space, receive the ball and execute a pass. Only player that looks capable of that is GLC but he doesn’t play.

Player Watch Player Watch: James Maddison

It’s not just a Maddison thing, our front three and midfield are devoid of movement. You could see how frustrated GLC looked coming on and looking for people to move into space but we were a team of statues.

    The Summer 2024 scouting thread

Not a patch on GLC, only thing about him is homegrown and a big hope he’ll improve upon leaving Forest.

    Match Threads Newcastle vs Spurs

This is the game to get Son out on the left, seem to recall he absolutely roasted Trippier last time out. Richy through the middle. I’d give Maddison a rest/wake up call and start GLC with Bentancur and give Biss another run although after last week wouldn’t be disappointed to see PEH start.

    Player Watch: Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

With the strong probability that we will be playing Europe next season, we need quality cover in all positions. I don’t see how we could get better cover for Maddison than GLC, to buy his quality would not be cheap and we have quite a number of areas to strengthen (I don’t see Kulu as adequate...

Probably get slaughtered for this view but I’d sooner have Werner in the squad than Kulu.

    Match Threads Spurs vs Forest

The way we play the full backs are going to get exposed on occasions and Biss and Sarr need to be covering much better. On their goal Biss could have put in more effort, same goes for Udogie And VDV makes a bad decision to go out, plenty of could have done better on that goal.

Player Watch Player Watch: Destiny Udogie

Three games in quick succession is tough when you ask so much of your full backs. Lack of trusted replacements for Udogie and Porro means they carry huge workloads for us.

Agree quietly got with doing his job today and was near faultless, the free kick he gave away just outside the box was a bit careless.

    Match Ratings Ratings vs Forest

VDV outstanding and clear MOTM. Honourable mention for Werner who was easily our most likely and threatening forward by some distance. Son struggling at CF but credit for laying it off for VDV goal. Sarr just doesn’t do enough against a low block. Madds still struggling to make a difference...

Player Watch Player Watch: Dejan Kulusevski

Yeah real odd one, looks totally devoid of confidence. At least he put to bed the idea that he might be an option on the LW that was a bit of a shocker cameo on the left.
