So my question remains unanswered. If not him, then who?

Player Watch Player Watch: Moussa Sissoko

It isn't moot. Park was a squad player. Sissoko would, I imagine, be among our higher earners. Given our reluctance to spend, I just don't see how we can keep high-earning squad players who don't offer anything but a "specialist role" that I'm just not convinced about. Considering we probably...

Except that Man U paid squad-player money (£4m) for Park, and we paid £30m for Sissoko.

The fact that he is considered by some (including the manager) to be an important member of the team/squad is part of our problem. I keep hearing about all these under-appreciated attributes he has, but for as long as none of those relate to the actual kicking of a football, then it's all...

Player Watch Player Watch: Erik Lamela

So for the avoidance of doubt, I wasn’t claiming Lamela has never made a match-winning contribution. I’m saying I don’t ever recall a time he was considered to be a difference-maker (as in a critical member of the team) for us. The fact everyone that responded referenced the same goal v City...

Player Watch Player Watch: Erik Lamela

I genuinely can't recall a single time over the last 7 years when Lamela has been a difference-maker for us. Not a single one time. This heads up ability you refer to is of no use if he's then unable to produce anything with it.

In what way do we benefit from this heads up ability of his?

We're obviously not going to be able to shift 25 players, even if we wanted to. Prioritising players you want to sell is all well and good, until you find out no-one wants to buy the ones you're most keen to get rid of. At this point, we need to just try and get rid of whoever we can, and...

Yes, I think we should be actively shopping around most of our players and taking whatever reasonable offers we can get for them, as opposed to just holding on to deadwood for the next few seasons because we can't recoup what we paid for them.

Player Watch Player Watch: Erik Lamela

There are very few of our players that we shouldn’t be looking to do this with. Kane and Son, for example, are on this list. Lamela definitely isn’t. He’s every bit as much a part of the problem as anyone else, with the problem being we have too many players of below-average quality for the...

Erik Lamela has never been a critical player for us. Not unless critical now means something else, and no-one got round to telling me.

    Manager watch: Jose Mourinho

I 100% wanted him gone. Mourinho being mind-numbingly awful doesn’t make that the wrong decision IMO.

Player Watch Player Watch: Erik Lamela

The lack of runners argument really doesn’t tally with the evidence of my own eyes. He just dwells on the ball for a second or two too long, every single time. It’s like it takes him that much longer than better players to process what’s happening, make a decision, and then actually execute.

Player Watch Player Watch: Erik Lamela

He's been here for 7 years now, and I still don't really know what it is he does or brings to the team. I really don't want to hear about his "tenacity" or "aggression" either, because we bought him for £30m when that actually meant something, and for that you expect SOME sort of tangible...

    Manager watch: Jose Mourinho

We've had 5 shots on target in the last 3 matches. Blame it all on ENIC if you like, but there's just no way in the world we don't have a squad capable of doing better than that. Against Sheffield United, Everton, and a Bournemouth team that have shipped goals for fun this year and lost 17 of 22...

    Player Watch: Tanguy Ndombele

Did you actually watch the game? How on earth was he going to get the ball without dropping deeper?

    Player Watch: Tanguy Ndombele

He was the only player wanting to carry the ball forward and make things happen, and having the ability to do so. Obviously his (lack of) conditioning is an issue at the minute, but he’s still shown more ability in his limited time this season than Winks and Sissoko have in their combined Spurs...

Lovely boy, I’m sure. But he’s never in a million years a Top 4/6/10 central midfielder in any shape, form or fashion.

It really doesn't matter whether he has runners or not, he always holds on to it for too long, as though he can't make his mind up in time.
