To the chorus of A Place in the Sun by Stevie Wonder
There's a James Maddison,
and he plays for Tottenham,
and he's got a wand of a right foot.
Because he's James Maddison,
and before my life is done,
it's good to find a James Maddison
It clearly needs improvement, but brain no worky
It would be quite complicated to implement, but I wouldn't be against the powers that be experimenting with a rule change whereby penalties were only awarded for clear goalscoring opportunities, and indirect free kicks were awarded for everything else in the area (eg when a player is running...
Best of luck to Dele. I really wanted him to turn it around with us, but it just hasn't worked out.
I think he's been one of the players most affected by the tumult at the club since Poch's last season, in terms of being played out of position, not having the same sort of creativity in...
That chorus is catchy (starts at around 40 seconds in). These are the normal lyrics.
Oh Oh Antonio he's gone away
Left me alonio, all on my ownio
I want to meet him with his new sweetheart
Then up will go Antonio and his ice-cream cart.
Could change it to
Oh Oh Antonio he came to Hotspur Way...
I didn't mean any disrespect to Dele or Brighton or Brentford by that. I didn't explain my point very well, but it was more that they are well organised teams that play attacking football, and that it would benefit Dele to have a well defined system to play in and perhaps to work with managers...
Completely understand that. Good point. I guess I'm just hoping he can turn it around as I've got such fond memories of his first few seasons for us.
I think it might do him good to go out on loan to a place like Brighton or Brentford and see what Graham Potter or Thomas Franks could do with...
I don't think it's a totally ridiculous take at all to say that he has had good games and bad games this season, and also that when he has bad games he gets piled on more than most other players would do. There may be good reasons for this based on him not seeming to take his football too...
That's a fair point. I'd say the same could be said for Dier also. He's generally alright when he has a good screening midfielder in front of him, like most defenders really. I think it has just become difficult for a few players to change the narrative that's been written of them and that if...
He looked really good. I quite liked that in some situations he knew when to take the safe option and just put it out of play instead of giving the ball away and leaving us in a vulnerable spot.
I don't want to die on this hill, and don't think I'll post anymore in this thread (not that it really matters or that anyone would notice), but it does seem like if Dele has a bad couple of games the reaction is so much worse than if other players have a bad run of games.
This may be fair...
We've been missing that quick passing in the middle and more advanced positions. He showed what a difference it makes to have a player that can do that tonight.
I still have a real soft spot for him from his peak years under Poch, but at the moment he's a bit all over the place positionally, and needs to learn to shift the ball quicker and make better use of it if he's going to make it as a central midfielder.
I dunno if it's something he'll be able...
It seems a bit harsh to say he's not a good player. He's got 126 combined assists and goals for us in 258 games.
He had three very good seasons, two seasons that were heavily disrupted by injury (one of which he actually did alright for some of it when Mourinho first came in), one season where...
