Basically my current feeling is that the first 10 games were an anomaly; we played a different style that teams weren't ready for, had a kind fixture list, whatever.
But in the 45 league games since our PPG is 1.35.
It was 1.35 from game 11 to game 38 last season.
Our PPG this season so far...
wtf is this implication that Capello wasn't a disaster?
Capello qualified with authority and gave us the 1-4 win over Croatia, great. He then failed to manage the squad at 2010 with such devastating inadequacy that it would be regarded as one of the worst-run tournament camps ever if not for...
On paper no liberties were taken whatsoever with that team. It was above Championship quality and thus better than Coventry, in theory. We could have won with what we had on the pitch and that would be a very reasonable expectation.
Like I said I kind of want to skip to the part where he's sacked even with that result - because I don't see where the actual turnaround of performance is coming from. But hey, we're still in it, so he'll circle the drain for a bit longer.
Our team with rested players should still be beating a side in a lower division. We had the quality to win the game with what we started with.
I do agree with the principle of not resting players for the league cup, because we should be trying to win a trophy and not taking any risk with it...
Can he just go now? Does anyone honestly, really expect him to turn this around?
And to anyone that does, where is the optimism coming from? When, recently, has form that goes back this far been turned around and resulted in anything good - and is it even close to the number of times where form...
I can't say I want Ange sacked - I really want his style to work - but like, have you not seen this before? Do you really think this turns around? This has been going on a fair while now. It all feels like that depressing downward spiral we've seen with so many managers before (and not just...
I know this is going to sound mighty convenient but I wasn't entirely confident about this season before it started. We haven't been consistently good since those first 10 games last season, with the Chelsea game a clear turning point. 44 points from 30 league games since that, which is 9th or...
I'd take Toby in a purely CB role, but Vertonghen was also terrific on the left side of a three, or even at left-back (e.g. Dortmund at home that time), making him better for the squad overall.
When you put it like that I can kind of get on board with it. If Solanke produces two or three seasons like what he just did, it would be hard to call it a bad signing given the company he would be in, the market, home-grown etc. It's a big if though.
The ones whining about and making jokes about his depression can get to fuck.
The slightly better point is it sounds as though Al-Ahly are being coerced into signing him by the PIF, which owns 4 of the clubs (MBS deciding which box to put his toys in). They are pissed that while other clubs get...
A disappearing Barcelona just means Real dominate even more, and Real are so clearly worse (though admittedly that's a smaller gap than it once was). Barcelona don't have a propaganda arm, don't lie about transfer fees to massage egos, and have a less deranged fanbase. And yeah, La Liga (and...
Jesus. It's a figure of speech. To clarify with an exact moment of dislike, I haven't liked him since Brentford got promoted and he used the post-match interview as an opportunity to mock his haters, and his reaction to his betting charges has not humbled him one iota - in fact it seems only to...
I've never liked Toney, and him signing for us and scoring a thousand goals won't change that one iota unless he himself shows signs of changing. It's a dangerous thing when being good at a sport is seen to "make up" for shitty off-field behaviour when the two things are totally unrelated.
Klopp descended into full self-parody quite quickly. When I saw him celebrating a Real Madrid disallowed goal as if they had scored themselves is when I realised he'd gone full Roy Keane - playing a version of himself to the gallery.
