Reportedly out injured now for two months. Come to think of it, that's probably where the story came from in the first place, as probably some journo saw he hadn't been selected and assumed Barcelona were going to sell him.
I think there are question marks over both Porro and Solanke being fit, so...
Son - Richarlison (Solanke) - Odobert
Maddison - Sarr - Bergvall
or
Maddison - Gray - Sarr (if Porro is fit)
Udogie - VdV - Romero - Gray (Porro)
Vicario
This is probably completely bonkers, but seeing how much Porro sits on top of that RW position in our average position map for match day 1 - is there a chance we experiment with shifting him to RW at some point during the season and maybe play Gray at RB? I feel like Porro maybe fits the profile...
I don't see much difference in terms of squad rotation if we go for a LB/LCB instead? If we sign e.g. Hermoso he can cover either VdV or Udogie, but as soon as they both need a rest we'll be playing Davies. If we sign Christensen he can cover VdV directly, or if Udogie needs a rest then VdV...
I feel like this move is way too sensible. He would definitely get game time at CB and could also play the 6 role in midfield. He's comfortable at either RCB or LCB, freeing up VdV to maybe cover for Udogie. I think he would fill a leadership role for us as well. Maybe we could do a deal with...
Doesn't Andreas Christensen alternate between CB and a DM role these days? Barcelona listening to offers apparently and I think we were interested before.
To be honest though I think the way some fans talk down others for not having the patience for a project is a bit much sometimes (not directed at you specifically).
The way I see it: everybody first gets a grace period of about a season, maybe longer if it's a previously successful manager (up...
So only three new registrations allowed for CL, and our squad is already at the limits (17 foreign + 8 HG). With Doherty, Gil, and Spence (HG) now going out on loan, and Danjuma + Porro replacing them... that leaves only 1 HG space in the squad, right? We can't even register Hincapie or Zaniolo...
Makes complete sense, otherwise it would have been more like 55-60m for us because we'd have to transfer the funds via the player instead to actually trigger the clause, and it would have been subject to income tax etc.
Difficult deal to negotiate I think. Sporting has all the leverage. On the...
Thing is Sporting are under no obligation to accept the 45m unless it's paid in full by the player himself. That's the way release clauses work in Portugal. So I can understand that clubs are usually willing to negotiate on the structure of payments, because it's just like an extra 10m on taxes...
Do I understand it correctly, that in Portugal the release clause must be activated by the player? Meaning that for Sporting to be obligated to accept a transfer, we would have to pay the 45m in one go, via Porro himself, which is then subject to income tax and all those shenanigans? If that's...
Would prefer both, but happy with either. CB is the bigger priority right now though in terms of the first XI. I think Zaniolo is a good player and fills a gap in the squad, but I mainly want us to sign him to show we are serious in backing Conte.
Thanks for the insight! You mention as a wingback that it's easier to defend as a unit of 5 out of possession, but aren't you also more likely to be caught out of position when in transition, relative to the fullback in a back four? But overall, you'd say the fullback is caught out more frequently?
