Player Watch Player Watch: Timo Werner

Agree and disagree. We could go for both, with say Gil leaving, maybe Solomon going. Sess going too. That’s 3 fringe players who can play WF who would be upgraded by adding CHO and Werner. Thats where I disagree in terms of how uninspiring it is - I think that improves us. Where I agree - I...

    Conor Gallagher

There’s a section in this 442 piece from about 10:50 onwards which raises some of those points very clearly. In a nutshell - CG’s defensive actions/tackles etc in the opposition half are very very high. His attacking output not so stunning. Fundamentally he’s a player well suited to Poch (and...

    2023/24 - The Race For..................

With a new (bit of an unknown quantity to me) manager at the start of the year i said to my uncle, a lifelong Spurs fan, that I’d take Europe (5/6th) and a cup run this year. Things were pretty shocking at the end of last year and I actually think this is pretty solid, all things considered and...

    End of season ratings

Like this. Would probably swap Madders with PEH on their overall impact when available but agree pretty much elsewhere.

Player Watch Player Watch: Giovani Lo Celso

I think he could be but you’re right, he’s never shown that level of drive/consistency to really push for a place and keep it. I know the game has changed a bit but consider someone like Modric. Came from a weaker league and looked a bit lightweight but worked hard, applied himself and his...

Sarr for me is the only one. But I absolutely make allowances for Maddison and Bentancur’s injuries in that equation. Still need options to keep them on their toes and to be honest GLC, Biss and Skipp don’t seem up to it, so fully agree with your assessment.

The Daily ITK Discussion Thread - 31st January

Will wait on the threads before going back and forth too much on the links but seems to me that along with WF, our midfield options are clearly in need of some bolstering/competition. How we balance some of that with the HG reqs seems like a challenge but I think we all can see that when out...

    Player Watch: Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

I think this is it. Great pro and a good player but doesn’t massively suit our direction or style at the moment. Definitely an area where we can hopefully improve with no hard feelings in regards to PEH.

    Joe Kinnear has died

I’m well out of the age demographic but my dad (could be the Irish connection) always made sure I knew that Kinnear was Spurs first and foremost. I never forgot that. RIP Joe

Player Watch Player Watch: Giovani Lo Celso

It is a shame because he’s clearly capable but there’s something lacking there which makes Ange at least not want to play him more. Sometimes the fit between a player/team/manager is wrong - nothing wrong with Gio that I personally see but I’m not working with him every day in training. I...

    Pedro Neto

My biggest concern is the money for sure. Very good player but feels like the price he’ll go for doesn’t fit with our business - unless he’s 100% main man Ange wants, I can’t imagine we’ll spend big on him

    Conor Gallagher

I don’t disagree but I think this is still underestimating what Ange needs to really compete from the midfield next year. Perhaps Bergvall can contribute but putting significant expectations on him at the moment feels premature. If you look at what we have: Bissouma Bentancur Sarr Skipp...

    Manager Watch: Ange Postecoglou

I think there’s some real merit in this. Appreciate pot shots from range can concede possession etc. but a few systems to get shots away at least keeps the opposition guessing; do they come out to stop a shot or sit in like they have been. interestingly, I’ve watched a bit of Leverkusen this...

    Conor Gallagher

Possibly in terms of Gallagher being the next target in this area but given Bergvall’s age, I still think we can improve upon either Hojbjerg or Skipp whilst allowing him time to settle and develop. Despite his professionalism PEH isn’t a great fit for us and you can say the same of skipp but...

    Manager Watch: Ange Postecoglou

Agree in terms of not liking the sub/change in set up but think it was more down to lack of options than anything

    Conor Gallagher

They’ve clearly been weighing up sales this window but don’t seem to have had anyone pay over the odds for anyone so far. In terms of January, I can’t see CG moving now, the link which seems to be gathering steam is Broja moving so that could buy them some time. Doesn’t change CGs contract...

Player Watch Player Watch: Lucas Bergvall

Don’t think that’s the case at all. I see it pretty much as Ange tells it - we should always be looking for opportunities to improve. That from my pov means for now or a couple of years down the road. So signing either first team talent or talent we expect to develop, in all possible areas...

    Jose Mourinho

Would be a serious mistake for them and what they’ve managed to build so far under Howe. That being said, seeing the same cycle play out again there as it did for us will be interesting. Rather them than us.

    Player Watch: Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

Could well be a summer resolution I suspect. In the interim, as frustrating as he can be to some fans PEH isn’t a passenger and always trains with commitment and gives his all in games. A great pro who still has a role here if we can’t change up/upgrade this month.

    Player Watch - Ashley Phillips

I sort of agree on this but if we get him for peanuts this window and he has a solid run for us, he’ll sell for a profit in fairly short order. So it’s not exactly a bad signing in that sense (Kelly).
