    Manager Watch: Ange Postecoglou

The notion that pundits need to "have played and know the game" is undermined everytime Paul Scholes opens his mouth.

Absolutely dreadful career move for any of them. Especially the mystery man.

    Callum Hudson-Odoi

He's 23 years old and has shown a clear willingness to knuckle down after a whirlwind start. He's been undeniably impressive for Forest. I see the logic here.

Non-dynamic managers need not apply. What I'm getting from this is they don't have a clue. Bayern can't get the manager they want and they're more appealing than Chelsea right now - so are Juve, Milan, and Barca. They'll be looking in the same pool as West Ham, Brighton, and Napoli. And...

    Mauricio Pochettino

Benefit that Poch has is players still like him and still want to work for him.

"We'd like a young manager that's full of ideas (but will have no say in transfers) to bring a new era for Chelsea (using the players we've already got)." What a sales pitch. Hey, you know the players you'd want to build a team around - that the fans love and relate to? Gallagher, for instance...

    Mauricio Pochettino

That is absolutely bananas. I know Brighton's probably too low for him after his last few stints but I think it's pretty perfect. Personally I hope he goes anywhere that I can want him to succeed again.

This keeps being said, but we conceded exactly as many goals as Aston Villa, who similarly operate the high line (because basically every good team does). The only other teams who conceded less than us than the top three (who have better players) are Man United (somehow), then Palace and Everton...

    Player Watch: Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

I've had a right journey with him. Thought he flattered to deceive in the 2021 team, but that was largely a Mourinho-infused hate. Then think he regularly showed up when others didn't, and has kept himself consistently competitive despite obviously being a spare part. Good luck to him.

Hard not to wonder what could've been with this one. Was so highly rated before his injuries. Hope he's doing alright mentally and can either rebuild his career somewhere or find something else that makes him happy. Barely 24, the poor bastard.

That's fair. I fully agree with you re Arry: it was usually self-promotion and self-serving stories, the kind we'd see a lot more of post-Poch.

Can I ask if you've felt a connection with how managers or players speak before? Might just be that you're less invested in a figurehead, which is fair.

    Manager Watch: Ange Postecoglou

I would counter that this is a very big part of being a good manager. Like, AVB had a more successful first season than Ange has, but Andre never got the same slack because (for as much as I liked him) he came across as standoffish and cold. I think a lot of the problems Chelsea had with Graham...

    2023/24 - The Race For..................

We did quite well when we won it in 1984, which has as much relevance to the chances of the current team as how we did when Redknapp played the kids or Poch threw games to focus on league challenges.
