Poch would only need to make one phone all to Mourinho or Solskjaer to find out what it is like to manage there. If that over rides the prestige, money or his need to take a new job then he won’t take it. If he thinks it isnt a problem he will.

I was saying when Mourinho was manager he wasn’t the whole problem, it was the hierarchy but the media’s power is strong over people’s thoughts.

I can’t see Poch turning it down though. There is a lot in that squad he could work with and sort out. But do they and their fans have the patience to wait the 1/2 seasons Poch would need to get them back to challenging for the title.
Poch still collecting £8M a year from spurs isn't he? No wonder he's taking his time. If be waiting for Bayern or PSG if I were him.

It's an interesting view and I agree on some points but I would still be worried if he went there.

They already have a lot of players he would like at the club. I think he tried to sign Fernandes, Martial, Van De Beek, Maguire and Wan Bissaka when he was with us. McTominay, Greenwood and Rashford are perfect for him. Shaw he had a great relationship with at Soton.

He has two great GKs there although I don't think either has played in a high line side.

Assuming the club would be willing to sacrifice Pogba then I think he would do well there. No way he turns down the job IMO. That said he could come into similar transfer issues there even with the extra money they have. They have missed out on De Ligt, Sancho, Haaland to name a few in recent windows, they are losing some of that major draw they once had. He may still not get his top picks.

It would all come down to how far Utd would be willing to back him compared to LVG, Jose and Ole. If they treated him the same way I could see him having similar problems, but like I said I'd still be worried if he went there.

Plus Jeff be straight in to try and get some of our players to jump so. Namely Dele, maybe Son...

Surely this isn’t true. I know Kane gets a lot of jibes but surely most people do accept he’s world class, and certainly better than Benzema, who has obviously been a top player but has nowhere near the strike rate for Madrid in La Liga that Kane has for us.

Bloody Barry Glendenning giving us grief on the Guardian Football Podcast, which is a show I usually enjoy. He was rambling on about the fact that he couldn't understand why we were considered part of the Big Six when we 'have only won one trophy in 40 years'.

What a cad.

It's true, maybe not pundits now but loads of fans on social media still massively disrespect him, Kane just doesn't fit people ideologies of World Class player, he's not fashionable enough, he's boring, he's not flashy, doesn't have tricks and he isn't that quick so a lot of his work is unappreciated and get's unnoticed.

Perhaps I need to get out of the mindset of dismissing views that emanates from social media, because I still see it as a platform for loud minorities rather than common consensus and this is potentially no longer true, but in day to day conversation with fans of Liverpool Arsenal or Man Utd they ask seem to realise what Kane is.

Might as well stick this in here.

It never fails to amaze me how Scousers have evolved to a higher plane of eloquence. Their accents somehow involuntary make them insert letters into words that don't exist....remarkable.

I quite like Barry but he’s a bit of a troll really. Doesn’t take a genius to work out why we’re considered part of the top 6.

Watching spurs last season, you would be forgiven for saying we wouldn't get in the top 4 this season before the season started.

Given the frugal nature of our transfers precovid, no one expected Levy to go out and spend like he did.

But now looking at our squad and in particular the manner in which we have started the season, surely we have to be mentioned in the title race.

I would still say we are, of course, behind city and Liverpool in the conversation but surely we have a better chance than any of the other clubs.

Anyway, I like what carragher said, I would love Jose to do it, just to shut up all those hacks in the media.

It'll be interesting watching the pundits do u-turns on us throughout the season.

Interesting - I understand what Neville is saying; however he is probably unaware that Levy has wanted Mourinho on a few occasions. What has happened is that Spurs have now increased its profile and Mourinho has reached a stage where accepting a more modest ‘project’ is right for him.

I find him to be a bit of a ‘proper football fans don’t support the top football teams’ type who seems to think that unless you follow Peterborough or Exeter or something your opinion doesn’t count.

I wonder if he felt this way before Sunderland slid down the leagues...

It’s a shame because he’s actually pretty intelligent and clearly puts thought into most of his discussion, but he has a condescending smugness about him. Really needs a black and white background ?

Behind in the conversation and behind in reality are different things. A manager who’s at the very least equal to the other two, star players as good as their star players, and now probably a fuller squad. All we really lack is that intangible’ know how to win things’ running through the dressing room but it didn’t seem to hinder Leicester.

Except that since lockdown last season we only lost one game, drew two and won the rest. We were in great form and anyone who saw us could see something was building. The pundits were too busy praising arteta and Lampard, or fernandes and his penalty taking to give us a chance. Yet look at all three of those clubs so far this season and they’ve all been a bit flat. As Mourinho says, we don’t get enough respect.

Are they both fucking mental? Saying they never thought about Tottenham being top four contenders. Suggesting it would be somehow exciting for someone surprising to win the league, like they already forgot Leicester. Absolute crap. Don’t know how they are even employed to speak about stuff they obviously have no intelligence or knowledge about, outside of their own favourite teams.

I liked Nevilles logic of 'Spurs wont win it because they haven't done it before.'
Had Man City won it before they won it?
Had Liverpool won it before they won it?
Had Leicester won it before they won it?
Had Chelsea won it before they won it?

Illogical Captain.

They didn’t say that they never thought about us being in the top 4 this season, they said that they didn’t think we would be in the top 4. They obviously would have considered it but understandably predicted that 4 teams would finish above us. Most people would have predicted the same after the money Chelsea spent and the way Utd ended last season.

I was ok with everything they said about us last night - we played poorly so it would be weird if they were waxing lyrical about us after that performance. The only thing I would say to challenge what Neville said (where he said we can’t win the league) is that if we can’t win it, then you may as well give Liverpool the trophy now because the other likely candidates look miles off.

That is classic revisionism. We were categorically not 'in great form'. Most of our games were turgid affairs when we showed absolutely no idea of how to attack. The emphasis was on 'the defensive structure' and the forwards had to somehow get goals by improvising. There was absolutely no hint last season - before or after the lockdown - that we would play the way we have so far this season.
