Cliff Jones, Terry Medwin and Mel Hopkins played together in late 50s/early 60s.

Saw someone in the YT comment section mention Ken Barton together with Medwin and Hopkins in the double side. Must admit I haven't even heard of Barton before. Wiki says he played 4 league games for us.

From a Swans forum:

how good a day is it?

the most valuable asset the club has developed in the last 10 years, sold for feck all, in the grand schemes of things.

DJ and McBurnie were sold for more, and they are nowhere near as good as Rodon.

Godfrey, who is not as good as Rodon, was sold for £25m + add-ons.

The players coming in are all free transfers, and only cover the players we lost in the summer.

One is a loan, who, if he does spectacularly well, can be recalled by his parent club in January.

This is no fault of Scott or Cooper.

This is a failure of the owners and their Yes-man.

This is what is so hard to understand on how Man Utd work. Giggs must know him as well as anyone and they are desperate for a good defender.

I can only imagine he is too cheap for the daft ****s, and perhaps Swansea should have asked £45m for him and they would probably have bought him
Surely by United's transfer logic, if he's cheaper than Maguire he must be worse, so therefore he isn't good enough...double it to £90m and then they would have been all over that deal. :ROFLMAO:

Did you mean to post this on the Joe Rodon player thread on Swansea Community?

I feel dirty saying it but he reminds me of a more comfortable on the ball John Terry (and no it's not just the socks over the knees that made me think it). Reckon Jose sees similar in him.

£11m (plus add-ons) looks like a very good deal for us.

My guess is he'll be competing with Tanganga to be 4th choice CB, so Swansea will probably miss out on some add-ons linked to club appearances.

More comfortable on the ball and less of a racist/vile personality....both of those are a given. You're not the first to see a similarity in their defensive attributes though.

Just found this on Spursweb

Tom Evans – born 1907, in Ton Pentre. He played left-half and had two spells at Spurs, 1927-29 and again, between 1929 and 1936, making over one hundred appearances.

Willie Davies – born Troedyrhiw, in 1900, he played for Spurs, from 1930-33 at outside-right and made 109 appearances.

Alf Day- born 1907, Ebbw Vale, he played as a wing-half and played for Spurs between 1931 and 1936.

Willie Evans – born Waunllwyd, Ebbw Vale, in 1912, he played as an outside-left and made 178 appearances for the club, between the years, 1931-36

So it's possible they did all make it on the pitch together.

Huh. I seriously thought that listing Tom Evans, Willie Davies, and Willie Evans as former Welsh Spurs was some sort of joke about Welsh names I didn't get being an American.

That must pretty much cover your early days down at the lane?

Yes, thought of him after I'd posted the original comment. Ken Barton made one appearance in the 'Double' side, his debut, losing 2-0 at OT in January. The 4 Welshmen never played together for the first team.

Didn’t take long to check. The 4 players didn’t play together in competitive matches. Alf Day didn’t make his debut until late in the 1933-34 season, replacing Tom Evans. By that time Willie Davies had left but in the following season, Day, Tom Evans and Willie Evans played together on a few occasions.

I know absolutely nothing about this lad but I’m hoping he can fit right in. I can’t see Tony having too long left at the club so hopefully Dier, Sanchez, Tanganga and Rodon can really turn out to be an excellent battery of CBs
