It’s an interesting read. I massively disagree with 2 things.

The 2018 window should be last by a mile. Pretending it was good because of ‘squad continuity’ is utter bullshit, we let the squad go stale and last year was the result of that.

The Bale money was not the disaster they paint it as. Sure Soldado (bless him) didn’t work out, but getting our chief playmaker for the next 6 years and 2 very good squad players (I always like Chadli, and Coco remains a delight) wasn’t a bad return. I’d forgotten we got Mousa, Hugo and Jan in AVB’s window, that was exceptional
I’d put this window above our 2015 one. We got strong backups for every positions. They completely missed out Carlos Vinnicius as well. Who wrote this dribble? At least get the facts right!

2020 might end up top but I think if 2 of our signings have the impact Son and Toby have managed we will have done very well indeed. Also underrated is the clearing house we achieved in the 2015 window (which we haven’t managed this time). 2015 should be top for now IMO

I'm most certainly opening myself up to the possibility of jumping the gun - heck, this year's window has only recently closed. For me, the signings of N'Jie and Wimmer are what docks points from the 2015 window.

Can’t agree on Wimmer. He was very good deputising for Vertonghen in his first season and looked set to be a long term replacement, and is a big part of why we had such a good season and got third. Fell off a cliff afterwards, and never seems to have recovered, but he played an important role in 15/16 and we also somehow double our money on him so I count him as a hit.

Yeah, maybe. I may be viewing him through the retrospectoscope.

To be fair Wimmer did well when he subbed for Jan that year and we ended up making a massive profit on him. N’Jie... I’ve got nothing, you can have that one

There were quite strong opinions at the time not to reinstate Vertonghen immediately. He was however brought straight back in once fit, and our performances dropped off. Wimmer did an excellent job standing in for him.

It’sa tough one because Vertonghen is probably the best centre back I’ve seen for us apart from King, but equally Wimmer deserved to keep playing and perhaps if he had he’d have developed differently. Instead he ended up disincentives and showed up to the next pre session in less than good nick, which with Pochettino as we know usually means no way back.

History has proven that Pochettino backed the right horse, but maybe it’s not so simple and a slightly more meritocratic approach would have allowed us to develop a good successor to super Jan.

Always thought that must have been a proper kick in the nuts for Wimmer after doing so well. The move to Stoke killed him off like it did with Imbula.

If we'd gotten Moutinho in the 2012 window it would have been one of the best - as it was we were stale and painful to watch for most of the season for not having properly replaced Modric and Van Der Vaart.

What's interesting about that article is that you should really wait two years to judge a transfer window. We did ok to stay top four and get to the CL final after not signing anyone in 2018, but then massively fell off a cliff the year after because there were too many players that needed replacing. The 2013 window was painted as a disaster at the time because so much money had been spent on crap players, but once the players had settled we then had one of the best playmakers in Europe in Eriksen plus Lamela and Chadli who were useful squad players in the next few seasons. The 2015 one is now quite rightly regarded as one of the best because Son, Toby, Alli and Trippier became important first team players for the strongest Tottenham side in generations, but at the close of the window a huge chunk of our fan base was having a massive temper tantrum that Levy had let down Poch by failing to sign, er, Saido Berahino. Last summer's signings were widely criticised as "not backing Poch" - but Lo Celso was starting to settle last season and Ndombele looks like becoming one of the best midfielders in the country this year, hopefully Clarke and Sessegnon will improve given time.

I'm pleased with the way this one has gone but we'll need to wait to judge it ultimately. Almost impossible that every signing works out, but we've made some encouraging moves so far. However if two years from now then Bale has been constantly injured, Vinicius hasn't adapted to English football and is the next Jo / Mario Jardel, Madrid have activated Reguilon's buy back clause and Doherty has gone back to his pre-Nuno form as a RB instead of a RWB then we might feel very differently.

I had no idea that John Hartson failed a medical to join Spurs when Graham was manager. He mentioned it on Jim ‘mates with everyone’ White’s show on talksport earlier.

Funny how Harry seems to be totally fair when it comes to us, but Jamie seems to be still consumed with seething resentment that we sacked his Dad. I may be wrong, but that's my perception, nor is it necessarily a criticism since I'm also very protective of my Dad

Jimmy's had a chip on his shoulder about us since long before his dad took over. Ever since he started his punditry he's been undermining the club, usually by suggesting top players need to leave (though he's had to tone that down over recent years as we've been more successful and there are fewer obviously better clubs).

He actually never liked us when he played for us - he felt he wasn't appreciated properly by the fans. That's because he thought of himself as a top class player when in reality he was a fairly limited perma-crock. I know this because he told me years ago - though I added the second part.

Back in the day Hartson was a bit of a legend round our way.
I think it was when he was playing for West Ham, he was in in a boozer called the Coach House in Enfield Town, good pub but run and owned by an absolute tosser.
Anyway, one night the absolute tosser decided to give John a bit of grief/banter about one of his performances, so John just walloped him.

Scenes.
