For City it's all about the '81 cup final, for Southampton it's Hoddle/Dean Richards in 2001 and for Leicester it's obviously 2016 which is really the most bizarre reason of all given that they won that title, and a bit of '99 League Cup.
I think with city recent events have had an impact too - pipped them to CL in 2010, we knocked them out the CL and have got further than they ever have, the 2-2 were Walker clearly pushed Sterling in the back and got away with it only to go up the other end and Son score, the VAR rulings too that have gone in our favour. We can be a bit of a bogey team for them

After the 1981 replay I was at Wembley underground station - there was a grown man on the opposite platform crying his eyes out., his pals trying to comfort him.
....
I wasn't very happy after the Coventry 87 turnout but no tears were shed.

Very true, but they've definitely held a grudge since '81 and recent events have just meant that the newer generations hold the same grudge.

It's bizarre to me. I don't hate Coventry, Blackburn or Liverpool because they've beaten us in finals, of all the reasons to start a rivalry that's one of the weirdest.

Agreed. I really don't see how losing a cup final can have this effect.

Although if you're West Ham and have lost 98 against us, then I can see how that might cause a smidge of resentment...

It wasn't so much as losing the final - It was THAT goal by RV.

Traumatised them so much, it must be the most televised cup final goal of all time throughout the soccer world.

Dickheads. Do they hate Everton, Newcastle and Wigan too, seeing as they’ve lost Cup Finals to them as well?

I don't think they give a shit about a cup final in the 80's. It's all about the last couple of years and how we have we have been a pain for them at times.

Not for some. I was speaking to a City fan a little while ago and he confirmed that it’s the 81 Fi al that does it for him. That’s when I asked him if he hated Everton, Newcastle, etc. He had no idea what I was talking about.

And yes, I did take social distancing measures.

Although it was before Covid.

I went to university with a Leicester fan and he said that a lot of the hate is also passed down regarding the 60-61 FA Cup final.

Leicester are pissed at us because we were the only team that didn’t roll over for them. Plus look at who their traditional rivals are.

They can’t really hate the rest of the Prem when all bar us wanted them to win it.

The thing is, the rest only wanted them to win it in order to stop us, not for any real love for Leicester.

And to be fair, if you'd asked any Spurs fan who'd they like to win the title if we ourselves couldn't and the choice was between Leicester and the any of the usual suspects, we'd have said Leicester too!

That's what bugs me the most about a certain section of Leicester fans - it's usually the gobby, internet-forum types:

They give it large about how they beat us to the title as if we were somehow complicit in them not winning it in any of the 130-odd years of their existence! As if, they'd have more League titles than Man U if it wasn't for the sinister machinations of Tottenham Hotspur foiling them at every turn. It had a very Scooby-Doo feel to it.

Utter melt-biscuits, some of them.

(I have to note that I have a number of mates in Leicester and not one of them gloats or takes the piss out of us for their win - they all say that they would have liked us to have won it if they hadn't, as they don't like the usual suspects and would have enjoyed someone else lifting the title for once. It's the shelf-brows who have the particularly moronic attitude noted above.)

Trawling through the Jose thread and talk of rivalries, and not to derail that thread any longer I thought this was very amusing.
A poll was taken last season as to which teams to supporters hate the most.

Gotta love spammers don't ya! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Yes that's right. We are above Millwall!

Lol pathetic west ham fans!

They’re only third on ours, and that’s probably only cos they’re so annoying in their jealousy and dislike of us! ??

Surprised to see more teams not hating Liverpool although glad to see they’re one of ours!

I thought Liverpool would be higher on Saints list than us.

No way, Think of it as them running a corner shop. Liverpool come along, fresh suit and expensive aftershave, enquiry about the price of a loaf and the shop keeper names a stupid price. Liverpool pay. Then comes Danny boy, who asks for the freshest loaf, fingers it, licks it and makes it unsellable to anyone else. Danny walks away cos why pay for a soiled loaf? Now he's taken a bite out of it an still not happy, West Ham come along and offer half price, loaf of bread says No Way, I've seen what they do to a French Stick!! Stop keeper is left with a loaf he can't sell until Danny comes back and offers to pay for it in instalments like he's paying for a newspaper delivery.

My best mate is a saints fan and I have been to a few games with him. Their fans fucking hate Liverpool.
