Some Everton chat re VAR and Lamela:

The technology is fantastic. I always wanted it and I want it to stay.
The problem is the utter incompetence of those making the calls.
Lamela v Martial. There’s only one player I’d send off there & that's Lamela for the pathetic play acting.
How do these idiots make so many bad calls week in, week out? They get to view it as many times as they like, yet still make inexplicable decisions.
Get a panel of ex pros on VAR duty now!

If you actually plan to follow the laws of the game you can't send Lamela off. Best is maybe a yellow, but even that is murky.

It’s not that long ago since bans were being handed out for simulation. What happened to that?? Lamela should be getting a 6 match ban for that at least.
And how did Pogba stay on? How did Shaw stay on??
The technology is not the problem.

He did make the most of it, but the only way to get him sent off would be to react like that, if he had stayed on his feet I bet that wouldn't have got a red card and maybe a yellow instead!

Only way Lamela is sent off is for the actions he took before, but I haven't seen that part enough to see if it was really bad also.

I think people are just being bitter. I don't remember there being an uproar against Rudiger when he rolled around after being touched in the chest by Son's boot.

The fact is the rules say Martial should get a red card and you'd be hard pressed to argue what Lamela did fell into the category of violent conduct. Lamela looked like he was jostling and his elbow slipped high.

It's just salty tribalism, I love the fact that literally every opposing fan really hates Lamela, and get the feeling he wouldn't want it any other way.
He's a sneaky bastard...he's our sneaky bastard.

Is that right though? If Lamela hadn't gone down and the ref had proceeded with play, wouldn't VAR have picked it up and reviewed it for a red card because it was a strike in the face, no matter how soft?

Everton fans moaning about “simulation.” Sure Coco made the most of it, but it’s not technically simulation as Martial slapped him in the face.

I think (and this is just my opinion) would be they wouldn't think it was enough contact... Plus it's united!

Might not "technically" be simulation, but he's gone down like his jaw's been broken! Soooooo...

Not that I give a shit, karma and all that..

Yeah, but as far as the rules are concerned, there was contact. That’s all the refs can act on, VAR or not.

Thought the ref had already reached for his pocket and was approaching the player before Lamela went down?

Imo Lamela only went down to try and protect himself from the ref(look like the injured party) as he instigated the whole thing.

I would look forward to Everton fans' self-entitling noises again come 2/3 of the season gone if they are still in the top 6.

A few years ago I'd have been disgusted at one of our players going down like that, now I'd actively encourage it. Mourinho's 100% correct, we were soft as fuck until he came along, and that's exactly why we didn't win anything.

If we lie, cheat and steal our way to the title/a Cup this season I'll be delighted. Every other team who wins them does.

Conversation with Gooner yesterday

Him: "Kane's been shit this season"

Me : "I don't call 8 goals in 8 games, plus 7 assists shit"

Him: "But he hasn't done it for England"

Simulation does not equal exaggeration.

Lamela didn’t act like he’d been slapped when he hadn’t. So there’s no simulation as Martial did in fact put his hands in his face.

The only thing actionable on Lamela would be the elbow to Martial’s chest which I don’t think there’s much there.

I think both of you are saying the same thing ie Martial to go off

He was not cheating though as he was slapped in the face. The issue is how he went down, but I have no problem how he did it

My conversation with him would have ended after the first line.
