I never go on Twitter but I ventured on this evening for a laugh. I genuinely cannot believe some of these Arse fans. The amount of tweets that I have seen saying, “where are you at now atleti fans” with the Mourinho gif of him holding his ear.

Not deterred from their cringe worthy tweets using a rivals manager, I ventured further, I find even more tweets from more Arse fans saying,“That’s what you get when you refuse to negotiate!”.

What? The full asking price in one lump sum that they have wanted all along? Instead of some shitty part exchange deal with payments spread over the next 20 years.

Genuinely baffled by that way of thinking and it seems to be wide spread with Arsenal fans, thinking they’ve done one over on Athletico. If I were them, I would be more pissed off that they didn’t pay it sooner and could have had him in to work with their coach and players instead of stringing it along for the past month or so.

Big time stats guy and Arsenil fan is very unimpressed

If you're splashing the cash, you really want scouting and data to both be excited about a player. That's not output I want to spunk £50M and big wages on. Or big wages and a 5-year contract.

He was amazing against Barcelona! Great, then why wasn't he amazing against all the other teams in La Liga last season?

Atletico are weird tactically, and his stats are not reflective of how he will play elsewhere. Again, fine... but we can ONLY judge his output from Atletico because that's the only place he's played since 2015. This increases the risk that the transfer goes wrong.

He's an elite defensive midifelder! His output looks nothing like an elite defensive midfielder.

He's NOT a defensive midfielder, he's a box-to-box midfielder who is great on the ball. Okay, but he also doesn't score goals or create goals for his teammates, so what are you actually paying for?

Transfer shopping is all about correctly evaluating and mitigating risk. If you are going to spend big, there needs to be very little risk something doesn't work out, and hopefully some upside involved as well.

hopefully a flop on big wages they can't move on.

Former Arsenal player Jack Wheelchair has been released from his contract with West Ham. He's been fit for eight whole months but weren't given any game time. Gotta feel sorry for the poor lad

Granted I've not seen too much of him but I saw him against Barca in the summer and Puig was giving him the run around, also he was hardly overpowering Puig either.

Is it possible he's been overhyped slightly and that playing in a very very defensive team it makes him appear better than he is?

Whilst you can read into stats too much, I saw a statbomb in comparison to Kante, and Kante was streets ahead with his numbers. In fact, Partey was quite low.

On paper Arsenal have had a decent window, they have addressed weaknesses and kept their star player. They’ve also got rid of some of the malign influences in the dressing room like Side Show Bob Jr.

Still think we are better than them though.

Agree that Arsenal have had a solid window. Really wouldn't surprise me if they along with us close the gap on City at least.

I don't think they are a genuine threat to the title as I still think their squad is a bit short, but a massive improvement on where they were.

Also has to be said out of the three big sides with young managers in, Arteta seems to have shown he has the ability to both identify and address the teams issues.

Definitely - they're pulling in the right direction for a change, Arteta clearly knows what he's doing as well and the players look like they're behind him. I think they'll be challenging top four but the depth in their squad is pretty crap, if they lose Aubameyang they don't have anyone to replace the goals for example, plus they still have David Luiz in their defence and Tierney is injury prone and unrealiable.

I think the Europa League and the schedule we're dealing with this year might not be best for them? I think, compared to us, they're one or two injuries away from being screwed over. Totally gonna jinx it now but we've addressed a fair bit of our depth that we can survive with one or two injuries.
They're better than last year so will be more of a threat, but I think we also need to remember that last year they were 8th so needed to be better and better might only be 6th for them.

If Wolves can get over their slow start, Wolves will be a big issue for them as their squad is largely the same and doesn't have the pressure of European football.

Us and them will be looking at Leciester and Man Utd as the teams above us who looks the easiest to displace, with a slight eye on Chelsea

I think that is something to always have in mind when judging players. If an attacker is doing well in a very attacking team and if a defender is doing well in a very defensive minded team.

I am not at all convinced Partey will do the dm job as well in PL.

Spot on, think they are a sold team and will be difficult to beat for a lot of teams but there will be a lot of pressure on Aubameyang and Willian to create as Saka, Pepe and Lacazette are inconsistent/young.

I am really curious to see what happens when Luiz makes a clanger. When he makes one his confidence goes and he normally become a liability. Nearly got caught out in the last game.

All in the Partey deal is supposedly costing them £100m, £45m release clause up front, £260k a week and a hefty agent fee.

They must be really stretching themselves financially, I don't think that £50m budget last summer was just a smokescreen as all of their signings had low initial outlays.

This year they've been hit with Covid and had another year out of CL. They still have Ozil on £350k a week, had to pay off Mkhitaryan, pretty much doubled Aubameyangs wage and added Willian on a large salary and signing on fee too. Their wage bill was already an issue and it surely has gone up rather than down.

They were unable to sell their fringe players aside from Martinez, who was potentially their best GK. I'm not really sure who they have even in their first team who is sellable for big money if they do get in a bit of bother financially. Lacazette's value drops each year. Saka maybe if he continues as he is.

Miss out CL again this year and surely things will start looking dicey unless Kroenke underwrites the losses. From what I've seen of them 9 points flatters them somewhat so far, still not sure how they beat West Ham. It think they'll be in the CL mix for sure but there are no guarantees with so many teams going for it. Same applies to us.

Yeah the £45m up front was a bit of a surprise. Definitely a panic buy - there's no excuse as to why else you'd wait until 5 mins before the deadline to activate a clause otherwise

Interesting Arteta got shot of Torreira and Guedndozi who were both relatively new recruits and raved about at one time.

Although I think Torrerira move may have been more because he was home sick? He started out well I think?

Torreira had that MOTM game against us at the Emirates in his first season, and after that we barely saw him. Homesick or at least not able to settle properly in England seems likely.

Guendouzi going is all about his attitude problems, Arteta sent him packing after he had that argument with Maupay when Brighton beat them in the summer and doesn't want him back.

Didn't Torreira arrive after having a really good world cup? And Arsenal fans bigged him up as the next big (although he is about 4ft tall) thing. Like most players they sign who then end up on loan at Birmingham or sitting around in the reserves for 3 years.
