Would have loved him here but we can't compete with the blood money City chuck at everything. Skriniar will do nicely though (fingers crossed).

Fabrizio now saying that the bid hasn't been accepted yet and no offer from Spurs.

Don't think we'd go near it once it was clear to us City have a serious interest. Whether City are using this interest as a tactic to reel Napoli (Koulibaly) or Kounde (Sevilla) back with more reasonable demands, who knows but don't think we'd want to be part of that show.

Only saw us firming up interest in him if we had a clearer path and were confident we could get a deal done. With CIty on the scene, no chance of that.

It's a huge deal and fair play to Benfica holding out for that kind of money. Skriniar is in the same level of player and if we can get him cheaper, seems like a no brainer. From my limited knowledge of Dias seems like he's exactly what City need at CB. Watch out Liverpool!

Really sad to see him go to City
He was the one I was hoping we get...Well, that clears the path to Skriniar - hope we get him now

A lot of the City fans on their main forum don't seem to be convinced by him, seem to want Kounde over Dias.

Otamendi is 32 and in 4 months he will be 33, they have our Super Jan who is also 33 and turn 34 in 6 months, and Jan signed a 3 year deal with Benfica and his age wont have a great resale value so he is there for the long term. Both on will be on quite decent wages as well. They have 5 CB's atm the moment (technically 4 as Lema has been on loan since 2018/19 ) and he has only ever played one senior game for Benfica), Dias is the Star Main man at 23yrs old , then they have 2 players in their 30's with of the em 33(verts) and 34(jardel who will be 35 in 6 months). Ferro has only one season playing first team and that was last season playing 26 games. It would be very risky they may need cash but verts and otamendi will be in high wages comparatively to the team, they will lose the main best defender and be banking on 2 guys 33 and 32 for the season and another back up is 34 and one inexperienced young chap at 23. They need cash because they are in debt due to banking on CL money but failed to qualify. They have spent circa £75M on transfers this summer (excludes wages which is on top).

Man City may have approached them and made an offer, just like we did, but Man city are not offering the amount they want. However its not clear from the reports how much cash they are actually offering, its says 55M EUR in total including Otamendi, therefore we dont know the actual cash amount and Benfica need cash. Man City main target whole TW has been Koudabiliy but wont match Napoli's price, they have been postering all window.

Just within this week Man City have said to have offered the same 55M including Otamendi for Kounde Sevilla CB and all of a sudden within a few days they have now gone in for Dias. This looks a bit weird and its seems a scattergun approach or are they postering Napoli again, making 2 stories come out and leaked to the right man like Romano, to make Napoli bring down the price. Its clear who Man City want and withing a week make the same offer plus player to 2 diff teams/players, therefore how serious are they about these new 2 players.

It does seem a bit strange. Always seemed like Koulibaly was their main target.... didn't get anywhere with that and then supposedly switched to Kounde. This week they have meant to have bid for Giminez and now suddenly Dias.

It is pretty much a buyers market and does feel like this could be a tactic to bring either Napoli or Sevilla back to the table with more reasonable demands. Saying that, both Dias and Otamendi are Mendes clients so maybe there is something going on.

It's so funny seeing city fans on twitter complaining about Dias. They want kounde or koulibaly and are crying over potentially getting Dias. They're such an embarrassing bunch. They think it's a panic buy and some even want txiki out. Bunch of spoiled brats.

€65m plus a player who’s probably worth €20m, so circa €80m on a centre back.

Classic City. Honestly that club is such a joke.

Can see why they'd lean towards Kounde/Koulibaly over Dias with the way they play. Dias looks very good but both Koulibaly and Kounde look the better one on one defenders (not to say Dias isn't good at that). City play with a higher line so probably want guys in defence who have good recovery and do well in one on one situations. Kounde at 21 looks like he could have a lot of potential.

So we've chosen Skriniar which means Dias will have to go elsewhere. I guess one of them had to miss out joining the mighty Spurs.

Isn't it amazing that nobody is freaking out about Dias possibly going City. Testament to the fact that the fans seem to be confident in the plans the club have as opposed to the usual of watching signings being made elsewhere why we sit around doing fuck all.
