Matt Law is also very reliable. He was the one with the Dele link.
Which was then backed up by ITK and numerous other reports. Just because something doesn't happen doesn't mean the club didn't try. Jose said today that he's confident Dele will be here at the end of the transfer window, he was more equivocal previously. It seems pretty clear that we were shopping Dele around and didn't get any takers. Whether it was truly a serious attempt to move him on or just mind-games to get him to knuckle down, who knows. But it does seem that it happened.

We should not sell Toby, when GLC is injured he’s our deep lying playmaker!

Sanchez was really poor last weekend, Skriniar needed... but can he play on the left of the two?

Alot of the best defenders in Italy were always Italians I know at one of the Int tournaments the entire 22 was made of players playing in Italy the only national team to do it, Few came to the Prem. Zambrotta, Cannavaro, Panucci played in Spain
And we got stuck with Paolo Tramezanni. The Italian ‘heartbreaker’ who had a touch like Peter Sutcliffe.

we’d be massively short if we had to rely on Dier, Sanchez, and a new player who needs time to adapt as our only senior CB options. I know Japhet and Foyth do have big potential but potential is not going to slow down the hulking center forwards we’ll be facing sometimes 2x a week this season. I don’t like selling Toby unless totally necessary.

My general concern is that Serie A defenders who come to the PL, from my recollection, have failed to impress.

Rubbish PL defenders who have done to Serie A tend to also look good.
Didn’t Fazio land and look like a prime Bobby Moore?

been very few players going from England to Italy or to Italy from England over the last decade.

Remember we used to have Dier or Wanyama shielding the CBs and our FBs were so rapid to cover I think it may be helped him thrive more.
This has been the heart of our problem for a long time imo.
Our rise from being a soft underbelly mid table team stopped with Davids. Since then we've always had a solid dm in Palacious, Sandro, Parker, Dier, Wanyama and Dembele was no push over either.
Since Wanyama and Dier left that position teams have been walking rhrough our midfield at ease to get at our defence.
To simply blame the defence shows a lack of understanding imo.
Plus, as you said, there has been a gradual decline in other positions as well. In fact its fair to say we havent improved in a single position anywhere on the pitch in the last 4 or 5 years.

Are you 100% sure?

It looks like Frank Trimboli, who negotiated the Eriksen deal?

Could even be an old picture that the journos are trying to make a story out of?

Here is Frank Trimboli:

Certainly looks like him in the picture. Works for the agency that represents both Dele and Danny Rose. Could just be there as a translator to help us broker the deal for Skriniar though.

There really hasn't. Here's the PL players who went to Serie A not too long ago off the top of my head

Hart
Sneezy
Cole
Richards
Fazio
Chiriches
Danilo
Smalling
Klavan
Young
Mkhitaryan
Ramsay
Eriksen
Sanchez
Lukaku

I could probably double that list if I looked it up, and that's just one way

If we want to win things now then we need the best players for now.

Toby is currently the best central defender at the club. He also is the most experienced.

Regardless of whether we sign this bloke then we should keep Toby until at least next summer.

I also really don’t rate Dier as a central defender. Sanchez is getting to that point now where he needs to prove he can regularly be good, too.

I was 11 years old when we signed him and he came from a Side that were promoted to Serie A 2 years before we got him.

Turned down Bergkamp but signed Tremazzani

Emerson and Zappacosta at Chelsea spring to mind. Darmian at Utd. 3 high profile, recent flops from Serie A.

Materazzi and Maicon were also notable serie a imports who turned out to be dog shit

That's not a lot at all and alot of those were in the Last 1-2 years as Serie A started to get back on its feet

If Toby goes we'll need a 5th CB (Monster?). Tanganga has been worryingly unavailable for too much of the time since his breakthrough. In an ideal world we'd do Skriniar and Dias in the same window, but that aint happening...right?

I am going to add in here when we played inter the first year in Champ Lge, I had a look before we played them on Forza Inter. On it the fans said they would beat us as they had Skrinrar and that was cheating, as he is so good. So I watched out for him, in fact we ended up playing them 4 times and all of the games it was very difficult to break them down. He really is very good.

Skrinrar's balls had only just dropped back then as a 14 year old more than two years away from his debut football match.

Yeah I’m not comfortable at all with Toby being part of the deal. Remains our best centre-half and at 31 is hardly ancient for a centre back. We’d be banking on Skriniar settling in immediately and somebody out of Dier, Sanchez or Tanganga to step up their games up a level. It’s a risk that could pay off but also leave our defence even more disjointed. Foyth should be the one we’re offering as a sweetener.

Have no clue what games you’re talking about. Think you’ve got something confused.

Highly doubt Toby will go. Jose knows we need 4 CB and I doubt he'll want to lose him even for this guy.
