I really don’t think Toby is on the decline to quite the extent that some are saying here. Yes he’s had better days but i still see him as our best defender

Im sorry but all this talk about Diop being the likeliest has, to me at least, been made to look like complete bullshit. No shot in hell we’d send Hitchen to Milan, in the middle of a fucking pandemic, if Diop, or any other defender for that matter, was the guy. I think we could get this done soon now.
Got to remember that ITKs will have numerous and different sources. Some of our reps may be working on Diop and that's that iTKs source, whereas other reps may be working on Skriniar and that ITK has contacts at that end. It's why we end up with about 4 or 5 names and some saying the other link is not our first choice.

Just something to think about. But yeah I doubt we'd be in Italy trying to thrash out a deal if we aren't serious especially meeting his agent face to face.

Would Toby really want to leave so soon after signing a new contract? It just sounds like media nonsense to me much like the Alli to Real one. I think this gets done as a straight deal with various add ons.

I'm not even sure he's suffering from a decline or if it's because he suited a high pressing team.

Remember we used to have Dier or Wanyama shielding the CBs and our FBs were so rapid to cover I think it may be helped him thrive more.

I would say wrt Toby, he hasn’t had a solid partner in a CB for a longgg time now. Switching between Dier and sanchez (who are very different players) must not be easy for him. If someone could come in (skriniar) and form a solid partnership with him we would see him back to his best. I’d also like to add Skriniar has been know as Excellent with both feet, which for me is something we also very much need especially at the left CB spot!

I think a valid recent criticism of our board has been not moving players on at the right time. Leaving us with rapidly depreciating assets.

There is a sweet spot of when to sell a player; not before they hit peak value and not when they have declined too far and >30.

As hard as it would be to see, as Toby has been an incredible player for us. Arguably our best Prem CB ever. The current window seems like the optimal time for Toby to move on.

Di Marzio has said Inter’s replacement for Skriniar should he leave is Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina. In contrast to us, Inter have been pretty strict on a ‘one in, one out’ policy this summer. E.g. Godin left and Vidal immediately took on Godin’s wage. I can’t see Inter getting Milenkovic AND Toby.

People will always have nostalgic memories of Toby & Jan which I get.

But to deny the fact he is past his prime is a glaringly obvious oversight. Yes he is still EPL quality, but not starting for a team aspiring for top 4 / silverware.

Wasn’t the dele to RM talk backed up by the ITK’s? It’s just Real decided against taking him

That innocuous Toby link out of nowhere reads like the same bullshit Dele to RM link in the Bale/Reguilon moves.
Except it's coming from Castles, who has a direct line of communication with Jose. If it had come from some random Italian outlet I'd agree with you.

'From' is the opposite of 'To', just to clarify :ROFLMAO:

Alot of the best defenders in Italy were always Italians I know at one of the Int tournaments the entire 22 was made of players playing in Italy the only national team to do it, Few played abroad or came to the Prem. Zambrotta, Cannavaro, Panucci played in Spain

The team playing shit for so long has added to this sentiment, if we were playing well, no one would be saying this. He is the best defender we have, no doubt about that.

My general concern is that Serie A defenders who come to the PL, from my recollection, have failed to impress.

Rubbish PL defenders who have done to Serie A tend to also look good.
