Credit where is due, it was a Mourinho masterclass on the second half today. Saw what was needed and bring on Lo Celso, which provided the factor needed for the goal fest. Problem still is our defense, that was very shaking today, mostly Dier, but Sanchez had his share of braindead moments. Really, Dier is a shocking defender, Toby can't be benched for him. Winks again did nothing for us, i'm really hoping the midfield of PEH, GLC and Ndombele become a thing. If we bring Ruben Dias and another attack minded midfielder, we're becoming a really strong team the hype would be massive. COYS!

Great result, aspecially as I have Kane and Son in FPL, but to be honest we scored purely because of Soton's high line and I'm afraid we will still struggle against teams who park a bus with us, i.e. most of the league
Not too many teams park against us nowadays. In fact a lot of teams have a lot of the ball against us. Even Norwich came out at our place last season.

This will be controversial but I mean it with all due respect. I think your point is bullshit.

Kane and Son turned that game. Bringing on Lo Celso wasn't some game changing master stroke. He's a player who everyone on this forum would have as a nailed on starter. Southampton got tired, got sloppy and our two world class forwards ripped them to pieces for it.

So when we lose it’s the managers fault and when we win it’s the players that have done it......? Can’t be both ways I’m afraid.

Peter Walton can fuck off.

Seriously, he's only there to protect the referees. I'd have a little bit of respect for him if he challenged the rules being enforced but all he does is make excuses for them.

That handball rule is absolutely bullshit - there is no way Doherty has his hand in an unnatural position when defending.

I thought we'd seen the last of it in the Champions League final but now it looks like they're trying to bring it into the Premier League.

Absolute joke.

We’ll be a scary team once if we add another top class Cb, back up striker and possibly another Cm/dm

as well as Bale and Reguilon adding to the team. Hope Levy goes all out!

If only we had someone who can score from long range.... Bale?! :cautious:  think we will be better now.

Amazing what real in your face challenging can do. The second half reminded me of Poch’s team at it’s best. Constant challenging the opposition player with the ball and swift counter attacks. Wonder why we didn’t do it first half and what Jose said to them at half-time that changed things around ?

Man City were genuinely interested in Winks a few months ago, Pep does like him.

We should snap their hands off in my opinion. The money can be better invested elsewhere in another CB, DCM or AMC and they are likely to have more impact than Winks. I’d rather keep Dele than Winks. His ceiling is higher and even when he plays poorly he still has a goal in him. He was in good form when JM first came in until he was sacrificed when we lost all our forwards to injury. That said I don’t think he gets in our best 11 at the moment but players form does go up and down.

Dier is a big disappointment for me. You can see from the documentary he has determination and cares (and is his own biggest critic) but he’s gone so far backwards from when he use to drop in as a third CB. He’s not mobile enough for DCM but not good enough to play as one of 2 CBs.

“These tactics won’t work against every team” isn’t the bombshell newsflash you think it is

No manager with half a brain is going to play a High line with Son, Kane, Bale in our line up. But... now we have Bale who can stick one in from 30 yards so who cares ?

Mou is getting it wrong, playing someone like Winks who is suited to possession football when we need someone to take control of the game. It's been obvious two games in a row now and Mou is going to get a massive pass based on something that his system had very little to do with.

Against a better side we won't get away with this and Kane and Son will get as isolated as they were in the first half.

We can't start like that from the outset again.

There have many comments from pundits galore that Jose does not have the support of the players , the players are stifled , they are not allowed to play etc , well if there is unrest then Lamela is the exception he doesn't get a regular starting spot but gives everything for the badge when he comes on , still blame Poch for not bringing him on in CL final , at least he would have added some much needed effort to that final .

Well done to Jose & the team for getting the win.
Really fuming with the piss poor ref & VAR (luckily it didn't ruin the game for us).
Loads of yellow cards & picky decisions for free kicks & the penalty decision well words fail me.

If Dele leaves then we need him as he's homegrown unless we replace with another homegrown, not sure who that would be though.

Palace exploited Southampton's weaknesses last weekend - balls in behind the full backs.

We did exactly the same with better players and thus more devastatingly, we had two goals disallowed doing the exact same thing in the first half but Hasenhuttl didn't learn a thing and set them up to fail as soon as we started to time our runs better.

It was undoubtedly the right attacking plan to go with and all credit for that and the lethal execution in the second half, but defensively we have so much work to do.

And the penalty, like the Lindelof situation yesterday and like Sissoko's in the CL final, is the most utterly unbelievable bullshit.

It's the managers fault we were playing a system that made every player look worse as an individual rather than a system that brings the level of each player up.

Now Lo Celso may have been a giant part of that but the fact is we already tore them open before with the service coming from N'dombele in the middle of the park.

Winks was shite all game again and I'm not sure why he stayed on.

With all due respect, but no. I want Ndom out of the club and he shouldn't even be in the match day squad with his application to his talent. More than a year at the club and we're still speaking about him just needing to return to fitness or this and that. The excuses are plenty. Everyone can see that he has an eye for a pass but he is currently way more of a liability than anything with his nonchalant passing and complete lack of movement off the ball and pressing.
For me one of, if not the most important trait, to have as a professional athlete is a good mentality and Ndombele obviously doesn't have it just like Adebayor, Taarabt or Quaresma for example. Plenty of talent but lacking the mentality and the personality to make the most out of it.

I think Phillips at Leeds will be good player. Looked far better than Rice for England (if that is any bench mark). Probably won’t get him out of Leeds this year as he is a Leeds boy but someone we should be watching closely. Best player in the Championship last year in my opinion.

I've got massive mixed feelings about this match, delighted we won obviously, not happy about the lack of control on the pitch especially in the first half, terrified about our defence, Doherty seemingly cannot play in a back 4 and our midfield was painful to watch until Gio came on, Hobjberg doesn't seem to be the answer, I don't think he's mobile enough and Ndombele can only play 25 mins without getting tired, I am absolutely salivating at the thought of Bale coming into this team in the front 3 because we will be absolutely lethal on the counter but Jesus we have some work to do at the back, mental.
I wonder whether we might be better to play Tanganga that side for his defensive solidity and let Reguilon bomb forward
