And one that I wish we were doing.
I can only think that we’ve viewed him as for a 22 year old not having enough to push straight for the first team when we’ve already got Son, Lucas and Lamela all in their prime for the wide slots, and then Bergwijn at only 9 months older having made a great start for us, and then Sessegnon and Clarke at 20 and about to be 20 as future prospects. We’re very well stocked both short and long term out wide for quality and depth. Then when you throw in Dele too there’s 7 players ranging from high potential to excellent (with mainly ‘good’ in between) for 3 AM positions.

Basically, the reason we aren’t going for a Eze is:

GK
RB CB CB LB
CM CM
Lucas Dele Son
Bergwijn Clarke Lamela Sessegnon
FW

As long as money that could’ve been used on Eze goes to a decent Kane back up instead, we are sorted on both wings, CAM and up front.

I accept that we've scouted him and were very interested last year, but we've since signed Bergwijn, who plays the same role, is only marginally older, is far more experienced in top flight football (and imo is clearly the better player at present). It wouldn't make sense to use limited funds on a winger just now (even if someone like Lamela was to leave!), as we have depth there, but are very short in other areas.

We need to add a striker + fullback to the squad, but apparently need to sell to sign. Stockpiling wingers would be ridiculous.

Shame but if Jose wanted him then I’m sure we’d have made a bigger push for him.

In this window more than ever before I have faith that the board are going after the players the manager says he needs.

Eh???

Lookman??
Gray??

These two are hardly pulling up trees and I'd say that Maddison is nothing special either just very good at set pieces and finishing.

Eze may turn into a superb player, however he will need consistent game time and lots of faith. We aren't in a position to offer a young player that. We already have a couple of young players that need a lot of attention.

Hopefully post-COVID we will be in a position to buy him should he become a big player.

Hardly think missing out on Lookman and Gray have cost us.

I think the point he made was that pleat recommended these players before their 'big' moves and would only have gone up in value. Gray cost £3.7mil for instance. And they would have been better options off the bench than Nkoudo / Njie!

I do think Eze has more potential than those two though.

I agree and have said constantly we should make a signing like this every season really.

That's all very well but it's not comparing similar circumstances as the game time here would have been much more limited as opposed to the clubs they eventually opted for.

Can't buy 'em all so I find these "we should have bought so and so when we had the chance..." responses pretty tiring.

So that's Ferguson and now Eze for Palace. Did we throw out the list of Poch targets and Palace found it in the trash?

Good move for him. Good luck to him.

Eze isn't a super young player, he is a player that'll want to be playing as much as possible and prove himself in the league. Similar situation to Bowen. Right move for him.

Hmm a talented forward going to Palace.

I look forward to the next 10 years of transfer requests, failed moved, and new contracts with ridiculous release clauses.

Unlike Zaha, Eze perhaps understands that you usually cannot have cake and eat it too.
