I know this has obviously been covered here, but can someone do me a favor and tell me what (specific) position (if any) this guy plays? From everything I heard at first it was simple: he was/is a Defensive Midfielder, a destroyer- yet one who can pick a pass. Then, however, I read that both him and Ward-Prouse- together- both played both CM roles for Southampton; i.e., that the two were either Holding or B2B’ers, depending upon the situation.

So which is it- is he a DM or a B2B? I was set on the fact that he was a direct Wanyama replacement- a guy who sits in front of the back 4, busts up plays and quickly gets the ball out to the creative players, but now looking at his highlights I see him going forward a lot.

I’m confused.

I think Mourinho is going to use him very differently to his role at Southampton - to put it simply, think his main job will be to essentially win the ball and pass it quickly to our creative players.

Tactics. :pompous:

The thing I really liked about the Rambler interview was his awareness of his own game, and that he brings the most on the mental side and improving other players - including “not always saying the easy thing”.

For example, I don’t think anybody at the club would say a word to Kane if he was being too greedy when there was an opportunity to play someone in. I get the feel that Hojbjerg might.

They have also been playing Romeu with him recently

I think it will be good to have a player who can play in the middle who has as an awareness and is adept to the defensive side of the game.

I don't think he is an out and out DM but for the last 2 or 3 seasons we have been trying to fit midfielders who do not have the awareness of what is going on around them. Sissoko is a pointer, Winks is an 8 all day, Wanyama lost his legs, Dier was exposed as one dimensional in the middle and our occasional experiments with the likes of Alli again showed uo a midfield which did not want to do the dirty stuff.

He is bound to bring some balance to the midfield. I would like to see him alongside Lo Celso with N'Dombele ahead in a 3. That for me would be our best 3 with what we have currently. It makes me moist.....

JM uses everyone to sit in front of the back 4 so yeah, he'll do that lol.

You need these black box voices in any team. And, as Mourinho already said, our players are too nice. They need to be bastards for the 90 minutes, sometimes with each other too

For those who missed it, here's Hojbjerg talking on a podcast with Andy Brassell ,couple of months back....

Very interesting listen. He sounds like a manager already. Very intelligent young man and level headed. Be great to have that in the centre of our team

A hundred pages discussing the actual transfer, thirty discussing the pronunciation of his name.
Which part of the deal do you personally feel more comfortable discussing? I honestly don’t know whether he will be a good signing or not (yet!). We’ll see.

My only take on it is that if the club (Jose) see it as a key component then I’m happy enough to go along with that thought.

I do though know a whole lot of people told me Bergwijn (spelling ?) was the fastest thing on 2 legs. In reality having seen the guy, that whilst he is a really good and solid addition to the squad he probably won’t win us the league based on that alone.

I have been a Spurs fan for many too many years and have seen supposedly great players come and mainly go.

Having said all this the key to building a top squad is to increase every position if you can over time. Let’s hope he does that.

Seriously, I'm not bothered what position is supposed to be his best, obviously it's going to be more defensive in nature, which is what we need BIG Time.
Listening to that interview about his time at bayern and being 'head strong' really made me stand up and take notice.
This guy will no doubt make mistakes as he has a fiery character, but God damn, he's a leader, leading by example..... I was so impressed with that interview. It shows the journey, and at 24 years old.... Mental. I'm confident this is money Well spent.....

I am not convinced you are pronouncing Hojbjerg correctly to make this work. We will need to hash this out over the next 20 pages of posts to be sure.
