Ben Davies played all the games after the lockdown because he could.

He won't be able to play every single game next season. So it will be either be:

- Davies
- Rose sold
- Sessegnon getting games when the opportunity arises

Or

- Davis
- Rose getting games when required
- Sessegnon loaned

Also adding another non-h/g player is going to leave us with awkward squad quota issues.

Cirkin will get games also.

I think he needs to go out on loan for a season and play regular games. At his age it's important to play and he's not good enough currently to play for us without him being a weakness in the team.

And most critically, play games at the position we think he is. If we want him to be LB, it does no good to loan him out somewhere where he’ll play LW. Fit is by far the most important.

I’d even rather have him in the Championship getting games at LB than on a survival chasing EPL team who might decide to use him further forward.

All that said, I’m also fine starting to use him ourselves. There should be enough opportunities to play in the cups and even some league games without being a disaster. One of either he or Cirkin are going to get some games.

If we're selling Aurier and loaning Sessegnon, then having one RB and one LB isn't enough, even if Castagne can cover both sides. We'd need another RB or LB in that case.

I get the impression Tanganga is being groomed for the defensive full back role

Davies - defensive LB, Sess - attacking LB

Tanganga - Attacking RB, Castagne - defensive RB

I think this will be our RB option for next season. If injury happens, both Tanganga and Castagne can cover full back.

Cirkin will be understudy to two LBS and Malachi Walcott will be understudy to two RBS.
Did you get the RB part muddled up?

Invert the system. I want Sessegnon getting into those positions that Aurier did at times this year. He's far more capable in front of goal and his crossing is better too. The lad has a good brain, it's been something that has been talked about in the past, but he's timid and scared to put his foot in. This role would get the most out of him, we just need a more stable RB.
I imagine this will be the plan going forwards. We just need to work on his defence when coming back to cover. Mourinho has said he sees him as an Ashley Cole

The latest rumours about Sessegnon really don’t sit right for me.
We pursued him for two whole seasons, then he arrived injured. Change of regime and the Covid disruption have no doubt had an effect, but he shouldn’t need a loan to get up to speed. That was, in effect, what his season at Fulham in the PL was.
I’m sure there’s a future for him here. Our transfer committee can not justify all the work for Ndombele and Sessegnon only to get rid after a (uniquely disrupted) season. Otherwise, quite rightly heads would roll (poch left as we know, not sure if McDermott was on the committee).

Also, I don’t think we can use this season under Jose to confidently predict the future of the squad.
I fully believe that Josés approach this season was about righting the ship, finding a system that gets the best out of the current group, whilst also highlighting to DL the gaps in the squad.

I really hope we keep him this season and give him games in the Europa League. He’s got pace and trickery and he’s still so young. Like Poch bled players like Kane in the EL, I think we can turn a fairly grinding competition into an opportunity to develop our less experienced players, especially Sessegnon who has something about him

Doing ok for himself anyway.

Hope he gets a run in the team through EL and then starts to get into the PL team. As others have said he is better than Aurier going forward so we should be able to utilise him better.

I find it baffling how we're prepared to be patient with Aurier and keep him in the team but not Sessengon or Ndombele.

Wishful think I would like for us to make moves for...
Eze
Brooks
M Edwards ( Big mistake letting him and Onomah go)
Edouard could play with Kane or rotate
PEH
LCB
LB
RB hopefully Foyth

I think you’re opening sentence is not a true reflection of what people are saying re all three players.

Re Aurier, I think most recognise we should do better but want us to be careful what we wish for as there seems to be some kind of catch with most potential replacements. He’s also impressed people with his handling of personal tragedy at the end of the season.

Re Sessegnon, the overriding sentiment appears to be that he needs game time but we need to improve, if he just stays and doesn’t play he’ll be in danger of not developing, he doesn’t seem to be solid enough for left back while he has currently superior players ahead of him at left wing, so loaning him somewhere he could develop seems the best way to help him progress and is too.

Re Ndombele, the sense I get is that most would rather he stays and fulfills his potential but he seems to want the move and so people are suggesting that at £10m per year salary and with a potential fee that could cover much of our other transfer business, keeping him is at this stage a a gamble.

Regarding Aurier. I am not doubting his strength of character especially since the loss of his brother even before his tragedy he showed good signs of improvement and consistency however he was given a lot of chances to get there... That was the point of my opening sentence.

We spent a lot of money on Sessengon and Ndombele to my mind we've not given them enough game time to adapt. Harry Kane isn't the best example as we know he's a world class striker in today's term. He came back from injury after lock down and played ever minute of our remaining games and we benefitted.

It's probably been mentioned here a bunch, but do we know if we have any kinda of deals in place for Edwards and Onomah, buy backs and so on? I think it would have been a bit silly if we didn't. At least sell ons.

Edwards I believe from what I read has a 50% clause in the contract (sale) don't quote me on this

He is just about 20, tbf - a loan to Ajax wouldn't be the worst thing for his development if he can't get minutes here
