As much as Aurier can be improved we won't sign two quality RB's this window so I'd rather keep him.

I did previously think that but wouldn’t it be nice going into games not thinking one of your defenders is going to gift the team chances during the match?

Granted he got better but I’m still far from confident in his ability.

Milan have arguably best LB in the world, surprised they want Aurier. But they have some good target men and it's a slower league so maybe he can succeed there. It's also more tactical which won't help him. Massive respect for Aurier in any case, love him and his positivity but we need someone better defensively.

It's more Levy's history of selling players and then not getting a fitting replacement in. If we sold him today we might have enough time but I wouldn't back us. Really we should be signing a first choice and keeping him as a back up. It's the only way I trust us not to be left short. Loads of players would be an improvement on him though.

Really?

He’s obviously going to be sold and we are linked with a new right back every week. I’d put money on what you suggest being exactly what doesn’t happen!
levy is a fan of academy players, KWP has done well for the saints , what do u think that adds up to ... I know its disheartening to think the club will use academy players rather than spend even if they sold ... but until levy changes nothing will

I don't think academy players will get much of a look in with Mourinho no matter what Levy thinks.

I am not questioning that he has encouraged FBs to attack, and in Maicon (Inter) and Marcelo (Madrid) has had some very offensive FBs. But I maintain that none of his teams were as asymmetrical as ours was (until lockdown) with us playing a 3-2-5 formation with Aurier on the RW.
I recall that Ivanovic (Chelsea) was really a CB playing at RB, a bit like us playing Dier or Toby there. Since lockdown we have been a more symmetrical team despite Aurier still getting up the right flank a lot (note Davies has been attacking more too since lockdown whereas before lockdown he was effectively a LCB). We'll have to agree to disagree.
Mourinho introduced Azpilicueta at LB, in place of Ashley Cole, during his second spell at Chelsea. Azpilicueta didn't venture forwards anywhere near as much then, as he does now, and Mourinho made it clear in interviews that Cole was dropped because he needed someone more defensive in that role who could drift into LCB when they attacked. I would actually say he played a very similar role to what Davies has done under Mourinho. From my recollection, Cole hadn't even been playing poorly - he just didn;t fit Mourinho's asymmetrical system.

I feel like keeping Aurier would be beneficial for the sake of having depth at RB if we were to bring someone else in, but I can't help but feel a little happy to see him potentially out of the door still as he is a weak link in our back line still and is very error prone.

Of all the players we can sell he is easily one of the most lucrative and we need the cash, frankly. This may also be a reason why the club would consider listening to offered for Foyth

how many times have we been here before

It's not like we are saying we are signing Dybala or whoever, there we've 'been before'. But replacing a non stellar first teamer sold for cash with someone else who probably won't be a mega star (though hopefully someone decent) isn't that far-fetched. I know that summer of no signings likes to be presented as the norm, but that isn't quite accurate to be fair.

I have watched a lot of Mourinho football the last 16 years and I have never seen him play such asymmetrical FBs as he did with us from Nov - lockdown, with us effectively playing 3 at the back and having Aurier as a RW to make the following front 5 - Son LW, Dele inside Left, Kane CF, Moura inside right, Aurier RW. At Chelsea Gallas and Azpiliqueta were from different eras (Gallas in his first reign, Azpiliqueta in his second). At Inter the back 4 stayed pretty flat throughout in a low block. At Madrid Marcelo was a very attacking LB, but he has been all his career. At Man U, his back 4 remained as pretty much a conventional back 4, with FBs that would join attacks when needed.

He absolutely did. I know Gallas and Azpilicueta were in different spells. Ferreira was the first spell and Ivanovic in the second spell were the right backs and they were the ones piling forward. At Inter, Maicon was the attacking RB.

So after years of 'sell before we buy', we actually get in a position where we can sell Aurier and the line becomes 'buy before we sell'. Classic Spurs!

He doesn’t want to be back up and made that clear when he wanted out last summer. Glad he’s going. One headless chicken gone, another (sissoko) will hopefully follow.
