I agree. However we aren't spending on two players of this ilk and position. Unless of course someone like Lucas goes.

Lucas, Son and Lamela are creeping up to 30 now so we certainly need to be thinking about getting players in who are under 24. That way we won't be In a situation 2 years down the line where we need to replace 3 or 4 players because they've passed their peak.

You also want players to fit right in once they regress.

Like what Fergie used to do.

Oh yes imagined Lamela going in this circumstance.

Is it wrong of me to fancy both Eze and Brooks coming in? Would give a bit of an injection to the squad in the creative attacking sense that we are sorely lacking, and options of course. Obviously unlikely to happen for obvious reasons, but a deep squad sure will be needed next year, certainly if our injuries are even half as bad.
There’s definitely enough room and opportunities if we get rid of Lamela.

Think Eze is a target we should be swooping for. Young, home grown and the club love him. Ultra silly if JM doesn't buy into this guy. What's honestly to loose? 4 months of reserve team football is all. Get him in, put him on the bench and let him prove himself. Fernandes - watch your step.

Wasn’t Willian said to be too expensive in terms of wages too? So that may well rule both him and Coutinho out.
It looks very much like one in one out, and sounds like this summer may see significantly more ‘swaps’ between clubs as they try to juggle their squads without too much cash outlay under the circumstances. Maybe targeting relegated teams players is more financially prudent as they may want bigger wages off the books and could be interested in our fringe players to make up the numbers. Perhaps throw outgoing loans in where more viable.

Happy we aren't taking on Coutinho, personally, and would love to see us add Eze instead.

Will be interesting to which of the rumoured options we go for. Eze seems to be a very popular vote with the fans. I think he'd more likely compete for one of the wide/inside forward positions.
I would like Brooks, as he is better equipped to fill that Eriksen shaped hole in the team. We have GLC to cleverly unlock defences high up the pitch in those tight spaces but no-one else with a similar skill set.

Brooks and Eze - Awesome. Although unlikely

No expensive loans suggest that top shelf is out and I think it would be a very sensible strategy to start picking up the best players from the lower half of the league.

Really good to hear a few snippets of ITK dropping.

Thanks for relaying it on guys

Eze is for the future. He will not be the player to get us Champs League next year or win us silverware yet. A player like Coutinho or Willian have the skills we need for next season. Jose will have winners as his targets. Eze will probably be for the next manager. We need more mature players. We are going nowhere next season with relegated teams cast offs and championship players. Are we seeing any of the top six chasing them. No they aren’t.

He says, on the day Man City agreed a fee for Ake lmfao.

Eze would be a great signing - we need a back-up CAM and he'd be perfect for that role. He'd get far more game time at other clubs though.

I didn't say Eze would not be a good signing. What I said was he is for the future and will not be the type of player we need to get us Champs League next season. Clarke and Sess came from the championship. Good signings but what did they deliver last season? We need proven calibre players the likes of Willian, Coutinho, etc, If Eze, Brooks, Wilson, Aarons etc are the wishes of this forum we are no longer aiming for the stars :depressed:

Pleasing to see that the ITK we are getting points to a more pragmatic approach.

Hojbjerg, Min Jae, Eze would all improve us. Add to that the likes of Wilson, Aarons and Brookes. There is a clearly more of a plan this year. If the likes of Aurier and Sissoko are moved on we will have improved rather cost effectively.

i quite like the Eze, Brooks and PEH links. They are not big names from top tier leagues but you know what you are getting. Personally i've been looking over the fence at who utd and chelsea are linked with and getting jealous. You buy what you need and we need a DM, and potentially some creativity off the bench (Eze is smart scouting/potential). Those bigger names often come in for a lot of money and perform as well as a Brooks or Eze would.

e.g. if Eze has an solid season you can see him matching the impact of Pepe from last season. Similarly if PEH makes a slight (and expected) step up when playing for Spurs he would have the same impact as Fred (utd) or Naby Kieta.

That said, i do hope, when the opportunity arises, we do go and buy the 'best' for a position we need. e.g. Timo Werner for Chelsea. we are lucky that we have some top tier players already in GLC,Kane, Son and in theory Dele. Chelsea are replacing those types of players.

COYS.
N.B i reserve the right to hate this post tomorrow and demand we sign some Barca players.

He sounds exciting. I guess that the problem is that we have a very limited budget - that is evident - and therefore Jose has a call to make on whether he wants someone who will take a couple of seasons, maybe more to prove his fee or someone proven that can make an immediate impact. Eze is a DL signing because he would have sell on value but on the other hand, Jose has to plan for the here and now to an extent.

I don’t like this term “Levy signing”. I believe it to be misleading. I am quite certain that he has never signed a player solely off his own bat, without the say so of chief scouts, youth coaches, managers, or DoFs - or all of them. Rather, we should refer to such signings as something like “club signings”. They might not be the manager’s choice or bought to be instant first team players but the football department generally will still have made the call. At most, I reckon Levy might sometimes ask any of the aforementioned what their opinion is of such and such a player (either because he likes that player, has been told good things about that player or because he has been offered that player).

Also, the idea that Levy buys a player because that player “would have sell on value” also misses the mark somewhat, IMO. Rather, he understandably likes the idea of signing future stars when they are still comparatively cheap - first and foremost because that is our most likely route to having star players in the team. The fact that they will have a good sell on value in the event that they leave is only a secondary consideration.

Eze is potentially a future star, perhaps at the level of a Grealish or Maddison. If Jose can find a place for him often enough; if he takes to Premier League football as quickly as Dele, for instance; and if his signing doesn’t prevent Jose from signing key players that he wants; then I’m all for yet another “club signing”.
