Liking the info from Triks. Hopefully that means we don't waste our time trying to get big names for cut prices. I always felt that we should just fill the positions we need filling with the budget we have rather than leave ourselves short. If we have 50m to spend then spend it on the positions we need filling. If that means 4x 12m pound signings so be it.

Question I am wondering is if PEH is the player JM actually wants or if he is just the best we can afford due to the budget and the number of positions we need to look at. No way to know unless the amount gets released but I would have thought that given how much we saved in the market over the last couple of seasons we should be able to afford Messi, even with the damage done by the virus pandemic.

I'm not sure it matters too much with PEH, he is cheaper because he is in the last year of his contract and he also ticks all of JM's boxes and some.

Well if Trix says PEH is Jose's number 1 target, I would imagine he's pretty keen on him. Of course there may be other constraints, but the thing that is most pleasing is that JM both knows what they are and is happy to work within them. Every club has a budget and can only afford what that stretches to. And I'm sure nearly all the clubs below the top few would love to be in our position.

Surely every manager at every club wants what he can realistically get with the budget available. It would be pointless to have the likes of Messi on your list. I got the impression with Poch that when given the option of what we could afford more often than not he would prefer to stick with his youngsters. Jose seems more keen to add to the squad with what he has knowing the youngsters are still here anyway so it's win win. We need a deep squad especially with Europe, something Poch got wrong for me.

Great news about PEH, proven PL quality and will walk into the team and should immediately improve us.

When Jose joined us I’m sure he was told we will have a very large budget for players due to the amount the stadium would bring in over the summer. Much closer to what ManU type spending. The whole idea of the stadium was to be a leveller with the elite clubs financially. Covid-19 has negated the stadium’s effect. So there may well be friction between Jose and Levy in this window where we miss Jose’s preferred targets as Levy reverts back to type trying to wring the best out of every deal. If we don’t sign PEH it could be the start of the end of another manager.

I'm pretty sure we had a net spend of over £120m this season, didn't we? Plus about £50m in managers :cautious:

I have a feeling that a lot of PL teams will be plugging the black hole of lost revenue this summer.

Cheers for the info Trix.

The news about PEH is not surprising given all the links in the media already, but I trust JM's judgement and if that's the DM he wants I hope Levy delivers.

it’s just so refreshing that a DM is finally identified as a legitimate target!!

I think that Jose is smart enough to understand the situation, the fact that it is beyond anyone's control and that every club will be suffering to some extent.
Levy's smart enough to juggle funds and ensure that there's money available, even if it's not as much as hoped.
He's always made it clear that transfer funds and a separate budget to anything else.

Yes, It sounds positive and hopefully we can fill some gaps without much fuss.

Also, strong rumours this week on Vazquez coming from Spainish newspapers, which is an odd one really, but having read all the rules and having the scouting thread banned I am not sure where I am able to discuss the link.

EDIT: most are just circulating previous rumours from Sun and whatnot and on the basis that he is most certainly off. The only sources adding information, some saying as much as Vazquez having agreed to come to the club, are far from reliable!
