That 4411 formation works, it suits Kane he can drop off like he likes & detail with Son. Leaves space to attack.. When we have 3 coming inside behind Harry it just congests everything.. Was still times when Davies had ball & both Moura & Son were coming towards ball. One of them has to run in behind to open play up & drag defenders out of position..same when Son had ball centrally edge of box & he played it to Moura Son should spun out round the back of Moura into box to give him an option.. Think there might be a lack of trust there that he'd get ball back.. I thought Arsenal were there for taking start of 2nd half if we pressed them but we sat off into our own half it worked in the end & got win but I think keeping ball is best way of not conceding.. First half I'd happily except us playing like that & winning 2nd half we probably been punished by a good team
I think we'll see much more of this 442 formation. He used it very well at Real Madrid. To your point about getting in behind teams he used to play Ronaldo as the left CF and get the LW to pull wide and come deep for the ball. When that happened Ronaldo would be straight into the channel and the ball would come straight down the line. I think he was trying to do that yesterday with Son and Kane - wait for the arsenal press and then get into the channel. It worked very well.

442 is the way forward.
Better for Son and keeps Moura out of the way

It worked against arsenal as it allowed us to match them up in midfield and gave us two strikers against their three defenders. It won't work against other formations though as we'll be outnumbered in central midfield.

With winks and lo celso in midfield, it will be hard to control the game in midfield ... We need one midfielder, who can work as a two midfielders someone like dembele at his peak

Now he has to figure how to beat teams that sit deep against us (which is most of them at home).

If he wants us to be this deadly counter-attacking team he’s gonna have to get inside Kane and Son’s heads because their selfishness when they could easily square a ball to a team-mate is so costly and has been at times under Poch.

Son had Kane completely free and chose not to pass and Kane could have squared to Bergwijn to kill the game, but shot instead.

If you want to play this way, you’ve got to be killers.

Agreed, I was screaming at the tv when Son didn't pass. The TV had the perfect angle that you could see the pass through the defenders, yet he chose to shoot instead, I was gobsmacked and so was Kane.

Would Ronaldo have passed there I wonder

Yeah, but Kane’s one was just as bad. Kane has to adjust his mindset. He’s not gonna get the volume of chances he used to. His best bet to score heavily is the easier pass and get on top the other team and get easy late goals when they’re beaten.

He could have got at least 2 yesterday. I didn't mind either shot tbf, both passes were a little more complex then you make out, both players have a good nack of scoring. I don't want players to be second guessing themselves.

"We always play with a lot of attacking players. I think sometimes we are not objective, always one more touch, sometimes too many people coming for the ball and not attacking spaces,"

"Some other teams with less attacking power they are more objective and aggressive in the way they go."

"I think yes we have to improve that, but this is a team that had lots of defensive problems. Part of the attacking problems were caused initially by so many injuries. Defensively this was a team that conceded a lot of goals, very difficult to keep a clean sheet.

"As you know, when I arrived, for about one year without a victory away from home. Even in my time just three, but in this time after the lockdown, of course we conceded three goals at Sheffield, but we kept three clean sheets and conceded a penalty against United, we conceded today a goal that is a monument of a goal.

"So I think that from a defensive point of view the team is improving a lot but that is not enough. We want more. In the beginning of next season we are going in search of more."

Jose Mourinho

I rarely disagree with what Mourinho is saying - now it is up to him to see if he can deliver on improvement.

Before yesterday 3 out of our 7 clean sheets in the league came in the 5 games after the break. And except against Sheffield the two goals we have conceded against Utd and Arsenal were a bit random (not that we couldn't have conceded more "normal" goals in both those games).

If I remember correctly we only had one clean sheet in the league under Pochettino this year (CP at home).

I would said obviously you start by fixing the defensive side of things. Even if it is "boring". And I also see the problem trying to be more expansive in style when you haven't got a right back, but some sort of winger that is not a winger playing RB. No DM even if players like Sissoko, Winks and Lo Celso give it their all. That is completely different to having prime Rose and Walker down the flanks - knowing they could handle themselves 1 on 1 out wide going forward and defending. At the same time Dembele centrally who will never get passed defensively 1 on 1 - and not to forget Dier who some years ago was great covering ground as well.

I'm not sold on Mourinho having what it takes to change gears with this squad when that time comes. But I can't fault him for what he is currently doing (and mainly saying about the future).

I personally would like to thank Jose for the wonderful job he’s done in managing expectations so far. He knew the City ban would be overturned, he knew the impact it would have on the fans finishing 5th only to have another Chelsea situation, or lasagnegate. This way he’s ensured we don’t dare to believe in champions league qualification only for it to be painfully removed when we finish 5th and the ban was overturned. Bravo Jose, bravo!!

It can and it has, Atletico Madrid have lined up with it for years to much success.

Could easily had scored three more goals. The one where Son should of smashed it as well.

But Harry was pissed with Son for not finding him, but like you say he could easily of squared for Bergwign moments earlier.

Decision making has to improve there from all of them. Although Lucas was good in that respect.

Yes athletico always play 442 with two defensive wingers ... But they always has great engines in the central midfield which we lack... Also they played 33,34 years old david villa, fernando torres and got into ucl final two times by playing this way ...

Interesting part of atletico is they always change their personnel specially in defense, midfield and attack within two or three years ...

By the same token, Harry could have also passed on one or two occasions.

I think our strikers have been starved of chances in the last three games that when they get a chance they become extra selfish. All strikers are selfish to a certain extent.
