I think he was heading for a diamond with Ndombele left and winks deep. Poch probably wanted Lo Celso as the player next to Ndombele but got fucked over when Dybala and Fernandes fell through. We heard Hoddle saying all summer that he knew their was a big budget available... And then we blew it on Sessegnon and Clarke and didn't get the quality players yet again

Every year same rumours same disappointments

May be poch wanted winks at the base with ndombele and lo celso in the middle and bruno/dybala infront of them and just behind kane and son?

This, his passmap vs Bournemouth and Everton when he is in advanced position show that he isn't that good there (with current setup at least), when he plays in deeper position he is usually the best player on the team. Almost any game with him in deeper position he is the biggest dot on the map, receiving and making more passing, having most centrality etc. And whole team shape looks better.
This is vs Everton in advanced positon:

And this was against West Ham in deeper position:

Thanks for this, although it seems everyone else is right in this instance. Hopefully they replace the incompetent in charge and bring someone in to bring the best out of him where ever that may be, probably behind the man up top though. ?

Yeah he was so fucked when he wanted one of Lo Celso or Bruno and former was his priority. Dybala became available in middle of the summer, he wasn't any crucial part for this window.

So disappointment that he got players he wanted.

That's why I said in the summer that Fernandes should have been an extra signing. Lo Celso is obviously a number 8 and not a 10

I don’t know as I don’t watch Spanish football but didn’t he play the majority of his last season with Betis as a 10/supporting striker? I seem to remember him scoring quite a lot of goals and when I watched the obligatory YouTube video a lot of those goals seemed to come with him playing off the striker.

I think he’s a bit wasted further back to be honest. He’s not got the physical presence to play a Dembele type role. He could be good deeper if you play him alongside and out and out DMF or as the more advanced player in a midfield 3 but personally I think we’ll get the most out of him playing in Alli’s role.

GLC is the new Lamela.

Remember his highlight reel? The days where he hadn't been crocked by the necessity to run himself into the ground by pressing and tackling, instead of creating and scoring...

I miss the luxury players we had in the Redknapp days. Imagine how great GLC or Lamela would have been in our 2011/12 squad.

I'm hoping that Mourinho makes it more so our defenders do the defending and don't delegate it out to the rest of the team.

Glc is slightly faster and more mobile than lamela ... He has the ability to be someone like modric

Look he is a highly technical and skilled player but, and this isnt a popular opinion/question, what does he do? He played well yesterday but without much output again... i think he has one assist from the Everton game and that was a shot that was going wide and came off Keane haha

What is his best position and why arent we really playing him there?

Slightly, but the pre-Spurs comparison is what I was aiming at - if GLC was to be made completely inert, he wouldn't be the first player to suffer in that way. I feel sorry for Lamela and mourn his time a bit with us - he's been turned into an advanced DM, and I hope that the same doesn't happen to GLC.

It's one of the reasons I am apathetic towards what people think its 'dross' Mourinho football. I much prefer a direct style of play to the 10-man possession/pressing stuff we've had years of. Hoddles and Gascoignes would never have survived under it, and they sort of represent our DNA.

Lamela became Advanced DM under Pochetinno ... Don't just think Mourinho make attacking player defenders

"We played lots of attacking players and again today and we played with only two midfield players and one of those was Gio Lo Celso, who is mainly an offensive player but we are playing him slightly deeper now."

This sounds like the beginning of Modric all over again.

I think we will see a move to the 4-3-3 when we have the personnel to do it. You sit Lo Celso and Ndombele in front of a midfield enforcer and we will unlock both of them. Ndombele should be the more forward midfielder of the two, but Lo Celso will have more freedom to dictate play and chip in in attack.

That's at least my theory.
