They aren't a valuable club. They are living on an artificial assumption of value. They don't control their stadium, which is old, and have a huge debt to Abramovich.

You also forget they too had a summer without buying. The key difference is that their manager improvised by looking at their youth - a missed opportunity for our previous manager who, despite the reputation, arguably did more harm than good for a generation of our academy.

They didnt buy last summer because of transfer ban. Otherwise they would have gone for players for sure ... That's what they do ..

The only thing that I like Jose: he won't tolerate if he wants new players
If Jose could not force Levy to spend some money to rebuild the team, no one in the world would be able to force Levy to spend the money.

But they didn't, and they are better for it.

We need to stop living in this fantasy that poor old Poch was hard done by. He was in a hole holding the shovel, and people still want to blame the soil.

Many said at the time, and I agree, that this was Levy's last roll of the dice.

If it went wrong it was time for him to step aside as he rarely makes good footballing decisions anymore. He can't even fall back on the old 'Levy time' as the last time he did that was the VDV signing - 10 years ago.

Since then it's just been a mess from him.
He has achieved amazing things with the club and the stadium is a masterpiece but I have to concede that there is force in your argument.

I love Poch but just because you love something or someone doesn't mean you don't recognise their faults and failings.

Chelsea bought drinkwater, barkley, didn't work out ... Now buying kai havertz for 72million, if he doesnt work, they will buy the next big talent. They spent 72m on a gk, but he flops massively .. next season they will buy next best upcoming gk ... That's what valuable clubs do
Ross Barkley is playing well for them.

Surely it's up to him when his last roll f the dice is. Presumably he can and will have as many as he wants until they sell up or he retires.

if you go through the squad, who would actually get in the other teams currently in the top 5..? Kane, son, glc, lloris and a fit ndombele. The rest just are not good enough. I’m not a José fan but he has some tripe.

I’ve always backed Levy to a certain extent, but like most I’ve become more and more frustrated. The day he appointed Mourinho was the last straw. We are woeful and it’s really hard to see especially now Man U and Chelsea are back in the picture. He’s cocked it up majorly.

Both Man Utd and Chelsea have shown the value in backing your manager and supporting him with his own signings.

Ole had a rocky patch but they kept him and signed Bruno, Maguire etc.

Lampards been backed as soon as their transfer ban ended despite some dubious performances early doors.

The thing is Levy has grown the club so much that no one will buy us - effectively we have priced ourselves out of being brought - arent we the most valuable club in the world? I highly doubt someone would see value in buying us - we have reached a ceiling i feel.
Agreed. We had this discussion a few days ago. I kind of assumed that the stadium might be a precursor to sel!ing up but they've made themselves practically unbuyable (not sure that's actually a word).

Before we start cursing Jose please don’t forget how bad we where under poch last 6 months

The football is even worse now than those last 6 months of Poch (saying something) and the results are no better . Do you ignore everything prior in relation to Poch? I don’t want Poch back btw but I find it ironic that we couldn’t give our best manager of the last 20 years ‘time’ for a rebuild yet you think a manager who has no reputation for long term ‘projects’ should be given time and millions of £ to add to the millions his milking us on salary.

Its not about cursing , it’s about stating what’s clear:

THE FOOTBALL IS SHIT

Off the field fantastic stuff ..on field...Wigan, Swansea, Portsmouth, Birmingham, Middlesboro and Blackburn have won as much as us since ENIC has took over.

For a so called big six club that is feckin embarrassing.

Fine I agree. The Fernandes deal is very good but I cannot for the life of me understand a top European club having £90m to spend on a centre back and then deciding to spend it on Maguire.
Utd's transfer dealings over the last decade have largely been a shambles. Absolute shambles. We would kill for their transfer budget and they are in the position they occupy despite of them.
Lampard has a good crop of younger players, good senior pros and has been given a huge budget from the sale of their best player.
Perhaps it is time to think about the same for us if we wish to rebuild. Seriously.
