There is only so many times we will get away with that though. If the opposition score we are fucked, because we're astoundingly poor going forward. The football just needs to be so much better. I really believe that over the course of a season, defending like this will be nothing to shout about at all if we simply can't create any patterns of play.

True but I dread every game playing like how we are now, especially a NLD.
True, but if we were 1-0 down you would hope we would support the attack a lot more. You can't attack with fluidity and be compact at the back at the same time. No team does that. I think we have problems going forwards, I mean we tried to attack at Sheffield, but a bit like Everton today, we were unable to get past a very organised side.

Everton also played in a very balanced way, they were scared of the counter and didn't really push forwards. This kind of played in our hands but if they were to push forward, you get more space and counters become a lot more dangerous.

Everyone keeps going on about Ndombele, if Ndombele can't get into this team then something is wrong with him.

There is something wrong with him. He is still not fit enough and that is a disgrace from a record signing on the same money as Kane iirc. Bad mentality get rid imo

I was just about to post the same. People need to forget about him. If he isn’t in the side ahead of terrible footballers like sissoko then there is a good reason. Id start off with saying he doesn’t have the heart for it.

We're 17 points behind this point last season despite improvement in PPG under Mourinho compared to the period this season before he came in.

Yeah but the style of play has improved dramatically... :cautious:

Don’t get me wrong, watching us is painful and at one point during the match I seriously considered doing the washing up :D.

As far as the NLD goes though, performance doesnt matter. Only the result.

What did he say? Tbh it crossed my mind in the game that his body language didn't look normal. I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to leave.

Just what I said basically. That the players need to focus on playing as a team and its about being together not playing for themselves or looking after their own interests. The team comes first was the long and short of it. A good captain’s speech.

FFS it’s Sheffield UNITED......

There are 2 (actually 3) teams in Sheffield

Sheffield UNITED
Sheffield WEDNESDAY

You don’t call Man Utd, Manchester.

I want them to go down simply so I don’t have to listen to anyone call them fucking Sheffield anymore. UNITED... They are Sheffield UNITED

That got me a lot more riled up than anything I watched tonight, so thank you.

Agree that was actually a step in the right direction, especially defensively. Solid base, potent counter, that’s how Jose plays.

if he wins playing like that I don’t care

Hugo’s words in the post match interview isn’t exactly calming me that things aren’t going badly between the players. Talking about playing for the team not individual interests. I mean that doesn’t sound good. I wonder if Son is looking for a move?
All attacking players will be looking for a move. Would you enjoy playing like that. Alli, Son, Kane, they dont wanna play like that. They'll go, JM will spunk the money up the wall and be sacked by xmas.
At least thats what my tea leaves are telling me.

We win a game and ppl are not happy.

Can't people realise that when a team in transition and rebuild will always look bereft of ideas and insipid.

Jose always focuses on the foundations first. And let's face it our defence needs drilling relentlessly. Everton barely had a sniff tonight, neither did United, neither did West Ham. When Jose tried to be clever with the attack we ended up getting hammered by Sheffield United of all teams.

We need to focus on defensive resolve for now. Address the problems in the structure and then focus on getting attackers to improve movement. We also need better runners.

Most of Jose's first seasons are like this. Mostly his second seasons are much better as he has had time to get the defence in shape and add better players to suit both that and the attack/ability with the ball.

We ain't rocking up and brushing teams aside with Sissoko Winks people
Unless we win by +3 goals, have CS, +60% possession and +10 shots on target our match will be bad ;)

I am so pleased that I didn't have to do my normal round trip from Bournemouth and shelling out £60 for a ticket!!!

Before today, just to point it out. Everton were second only to Wolves in form before this round. There fixtures have also not been that easy. Liverpool, Everton and, well, Norwich (that is an easy one!). They were unbeaten since we all came back.

Everton are not a poor team, and on top of that were on good form. They played poorly today, but we really did well to stop them playing well.

Even after watching us defending okayish tonight I still close my eyes and get flashbacks of the second and third goals vs. Sheff Utd.

Don't lie to me Tottenham. Not tonight. Not like this.

What did I miss? Why that sudden notion?
