I don't understand why Jose is taking heat for this loss. The players were fully to blame for that shit show. Epically incompetent defending led to all three goals for Sheff Utd. They did well to precisely open us up, but our focus was way off. We just let runners run, lost track of other players, and just watched the ball, instead of reacting. The whole thing was humiliating.

And when we did get into the final third... the amount of misplaced passes and idiotic decision making was hilariously predictable. Sonny flouncing around, scared shitless to put in any effort. Harry wasn't much better. Stevie B looked a bit bemused by the whole thing. And Moura was playing it safe. Then comes on Lamela, who kept running thoughtlessly into the abyss. Following that, Dele comes on, and did his usual pussy-footing around, without intent.

Even Lo Celso was off today.

Bottom line... I'm not sure how Jose is able to get these players to focus. Their mistakes are childish at times. Such as the inability to pick out a ten yard pass without over-hitting it or completely misplacing it. No tactics or strategy in the world can fix stupid. And that was how nearly all of our players played today... stupid. And as much as I can certainly understand how annoying Jose's negativity can be... today was not his fault.

Rubbish mate, fully fit squad and 5 subs. He could have changed it or at least made us wideretc but didn’t do a lot - if anything

Before lockdown I would’ve agreed with you but what purpose does a DoF serve now? We’ve got basically no money to spend.
We dont know that for sure do we.

Plus the last player I would sacrifice would be Kane. If any players got a winning mentality in the squad its him.

Lucas Moura for example would command a decent fee, and enable us to go and strengthen another position.

It's very clear we need investments. I have no doubt within this current squad we do have some gems however the basics are just not good enough far to many average players that have over stayed.

Even with Mourinho working on this defensive unit with Davies being tucked in Sessoko shielding the back four against Sheffield United that was unacceptable. We also hardly troubled their keeper going toward. Son hides in the shadows whenever Kane plays and were left with Kane carrying an unrealistic weight I much prefer Alli off Kane myself.

we need an exponential graph in this thread on uses of the term “wake up and smell the coffee” :cautious:

One problem is this I’ve seen over the last few weeks people get on like lamela aurier sissoko Davies lucas are all smashing players .... they aren’t wake up and smell the coffee !!! This squad needs a massive revamp !!
Bang on. I'd add Dele to the list.

With Kane, Son, Bergwijn, Lo Celso, and Ndombele (if he can come to grips with the physical requirements of the league), we've got the makings of a brilliant front five.

The problem is that a top DM would be needed to unleash Ndombele and Lo Celso, our fullbacks are thoroughly mediocre, and virtually the entire list of second-choice players simply isn't good enough to provide meaningful competition and keep the first XI on its toes. We need two or three genuine starting-quality players, and a nearly complete refresh of the squad players with young hungry talents who will push our stars to be at their best.

But there's absolutely no indication whatsoever that we have the structure in place to make that kind of a shakeup happen. It's hard to think that we could even sign a DM, fullback, and backup striker, let alone shifting the players on the fringes and bringing in a new crop. We'd need a DOF with real scouting ability and a coherent strategy to approaching the market, and we have't got one.

I'm watching a proper match now (city Vs Liverpool). The difference is incredible. It's more enjoyable being a neutral fan I think.

Foden is fucking good. Man City three up. Not sure even Man City running up a cricket score against Liverpool would cheer me up.

Need a style of play first...

I remember when Liverpool appointed klopp. From day one you can see they believed in the system and the press. They're still doing it now and have their rewards. Poch was on the right track but then player sales, poor replacements and possibly player power saw that system stopped.

City play in Guardiola style.. any player who doesn't follow the system is out the door.

No point buying players if there isn't a style of play that the manager or players will follow first.

Add in Son and Kane - both are far, far too good for us and it's never any use having an unhappy player around. The problem is that the bloke who'd be reinvesting that money bought Lindelof, Bailey, Dalot and Fred while selling Lukaku, De Bruyne, Bonucci and Salah.
How many times this season have either of them looked like they are far, far better than the rest of the players in the team? Gareth Bale played out of his skin to try to drag his teammates kicking and screaming into the Champions League before moving to Real Madrid. In a team lacking in quality, creativity and ambition, he won games single handedly, gave us something to cheer about and deserved the step up he got.

This season, Kane and Son look no better than Lucas, Dele, Sissoko or any of the other players that are deemed not good enough. Performances from almost everybody have been generally awful this year, some players just have enough good will in the bank from previous seasons to cloud peoples' perceptions.

If Kane and Son think they are too good for us, it's about damn time they started to show it again.

I saw a style of play today. I saw us put together alot of dangerous attacks that fell apart with poor final ball due to a lack of quality from the players. I saw good shape and then lapses in concentration for the first goal. I saw a really shocking decision go against us and instead of dusting themselves down the players give up. Common traits of this squad.

I’d be up for a huge rebuild but would not give the funds to Mourinho.
Whoever is in charge you can bet that Levy would string out the purchases till deadline day.

1 win in 11.... Non existent clean sheets. Jose hasn’t got a clue
Agree that is a terrible record. But putting all the blame on him is a simplification. There's plenty of blame to go around. Don't you think the players are being a bit gutless and gormless? Hard to ignore just how shitty their attitudes are.

hopefully to unearth the superstars for low fees like Campos for example, has a habit of doing.

but having said that, Levy always knows better and would probably come uo with an even cheaper still option!

Got to continue the rebuild that we started last summer, and as poch said, it's going to be a painful one. The following players need to be sold or released:

Jan
Kwp
Moura
Davies
Toby (if a good offer comes in)
Aurier
Winks
Sissoko
Rose

We also need to find a long term replacement for lloris too given that the fees for GK seem to have rocketed.

Whatever we get for the naming rights should be invested straight into the squad along with player sales. We need to be smarter with our transfers, I'd rather we signed young and hungry players with Premier league experience and we could get some of those players from the relegated teams if we move fast.

we've got a good core of players in kane, son, lo celso, ndombele, sess, bergwijn, alli, japhet although it's telling that all those players, bar 1/2 are attacking players and not defensive.

Sanchez has potential, dier and lamela are handy backups. I would like to see sess and japhet in the same mould as walker and rose in the good old days.

We desperately need a defensive midfielder, another CB to partner with Sanchez as dier is not CB material and its plain to see that Toby is past his best, and a backup to kane.

I'll give you that and whatever we think about Jose he's not going to get sacked so we are going to have to suck it up and hope he still has the nous and squad to move us forward

Yes, to your point about BVB Dortmund. I live there and my friends support them. We should have been selling Eriksen, Verts and Toby 3 years ago and buying a shit ton of promising youth. BVB are now flying high on that principle, having sold Aubameyang. We should do the same.

Completely agree with this. We can't outspend Utd, City, Pool, Chelsea etc so we need to be different.

If that means investing in youth then so be it. Poch got it right in his first few seasons with young, hungry, high energy players who knew their roles in a fully functioning team.

Signing the likes of Moura, Aurier and Sissoko was where we started to decline.

Our best signing this summer would be a sporting director (Campos?) l who builds a new identity for our club and focuses on signing players with huge potential.

So frustrated at the moment as we just look like a team of strangers.

Sell Alli, Ndombele ,Aurier and and any of our squad any team wants barring Kane, son, le Celso, Bergwijn and use the money for a total rebuild
