How many Spurs fans would say that Jordan Henderson is a limited player, whose passing isn't good enough?? Players like Holberg & Henderson do the dirty work that allows the creative players more freedom to play. He would add a physical presence, work rate & leadership to a key area. Personally think he would be an excellent addition.

A lot stuck up their nose and didn't want Grealish and may now regret it.
I think the same will be said of this fellow.

I think you just have to take each player on their own merit. If people called it wrong on one player I don’t think it means they’ll be wrong on every player, it could be that the people who wanted Grealish don’t want this fella and the people who didn’t want us to sign Grealish want us to sign PEH.

I was desperate for us to sign Grealish. This guy, not so much. If this is the best our scouts can come up with then it’s yet another reason to review them and get rid of those in charge of the set up.

I think it's nonsense to say we don't have a passer in the side given we have Ndombele, Lo Celso and Kane....and Eriksen was rubbish for ages

That said, i think this guy is a good player in a position we desperately need to strengthen. I'm all for this

My understanding of Hoddle's point was about not having someone to play longer range passes, and from midfield. That they all like to dribble first in transition. Here's his quote in full:

“In the long-term, I think they need two new full-backs, I think they need a passer in midfield. A lot of players at Tottenham at the moment, they run with the ball. Too many players don’t release the ball quickly. Winks is probably the only one who can do it, but is he an [Christian] Eriksen? That’s how Kane will score goals, good crosses coming in from your full-backs and a midfield player – Eriksen and Kane had that little bit of eye contact. I don’t think they’ve got that at the moment, I think too many players hold onto the ball for too long in midfield, and teams come in and crowd them out."

From what I've seen of Tanguy and GLC, they are both excellent at short to medium creative passes, but not at pinging those longer passes in the transition and switching play to help wear down low block defenses.

Winks (who I rate) is decent but not exceptional at those passes, often unbalances us defensively as the 6 with GLC/Tanguy, and will never be physically imposing.

I think JM has a similar view to Hoddle's on how to best balance our midfield. And that consequently he wants some passing ability to improve this imbalance, rather than pure destroyer (who can't play long passes) to compound the issue.

A lot of the criticisms I've seen of Hojbjerg, similar to those on the Soumare link, are I think because people have a different concept of what type of DM we need. Many want a pure destroyer to fix the defence, and PEH isn't that therefore he's average.

I think PEH is a pretty good version of a tenacious, relatively press resistant positional midfielder, who plays quick short and long passes, and would therefore massively improve us.

Not because he's a worldie, but just because he's a good player with the right skill set to solve a lot of our issues.

I dunno if this is quite on the same level.

A lot of those that watched Grealish closely knew he was a special talent and the Villa fans thought he should be in the England squad even when they were in the Championship - he was far and away their star man and the standout player in the league. I think missing out on Grealish is easily the biggest fuckup Levy has made in the past few years.

Hojbjerg looks decent enough but I can't see him having some Grealish-like rise to stardom if we miss out on him.

I understand that, just saying sometime we have a short vision and poor understanding of players potential

it was a big miss no doubt, although we probably don’t have GLC if we have Grealish.

my list of bigger f ups:
1) Aurier over Ricardo for Walker replacement + selling Walker to City w/o getting Sancho.
2) Not signing Moussa Dembele 2 for 5M due to physical/loanback
3) Letting Pau Lopez go when we could have had him permanent for 2M

You can’t win. If we show any sign of understanding the financial situation (and the trade with KWP that this transfer obviously includes), people just say “we should be aiming for better than him”. Then you get someone else saying “ unrealistic- levy won’t spend”.

What's wrong with his potential? What type of players should they come up with?

Yeah all huge fuckups. I guess I was just personally very excited for Grealish - he felt like the final piece in the puzzle and we 100% could've had him if Levy had just gone for it.

Perfect examples of why its total bullshit when we hear there's no value in the market. You could have fixed 5 spots for what 60 mil?

It's funny because go to @HotspurRelated profile on TT and search for 2018 news about Grealish, I would say more people was against the move until it looked like the only possible move. Same apply to Wijnaldum in 2016.

Pau Lopez stats even this season looks pretty mediocre, for us he played 7 times in U23, had 3 CS and was 12 times on the bench, wouldn't say it's someone we really fucked up.

do we really need him? I don't think hes that great to be honest...
Well, we need somebody there that's for sure. It's the most important position we need to address, the one that could transform our fortunes the most because it would allow us to play to our strengths again without fear of being ripped apart on the counter.

That's as much to do with the formation of the team as the players on the pitch. Both Poch and Mourinho have consistently left us light in CM. The sooner we get 3 in CM for some games the better IMO.

We really could've used Grealish's grit. Him and Dele together would be so fun to watch.

I agree with the sentiment but have to add that if we'd have signed Grealish I don't think we'd have signed Lo Celso, and given the choice I'd pick Gio.
