Let Liverpool have the league and make up the numbers to 4 teams by using an aggregate from the last 4 seasons.
No relegation and the top 2 teams in the other leagues get their promotion. Just have an extra team relegated for the next 2 seasons to bring it back to how it is.
Obviously end the season now.
BUT the authorities and the teams who will lose their TV cash will surely be against that.

People health is more important than sport, at the moment I don’t really care about when/if football restarts this season or next. People are dying around the world due to this virus, so why are people so bothered about bloody football..

People are always dying - let’s not reduce this to virtue signaling (“I care more about people’s lives than football, don’t you?”) This time there’s a virus serious enough that everyone agrees we can’t have crowds. But if the medical authorities deem it safe enough for 22 young athletes, tested and with face-masks, to play some games, then I’m bemused as to the second guessing on here from people without those public health qualifications.

And if you null and void, you'll have legal proceedings from Leeds, West Brom, Leicester, Wolves and Sheffield United at a minimum. I don't think there's any option that avoids that sadly. There's no solution where nobody loses out.
They wouldn't have a leg to stand on as none of them have actually won their position yet. The PL could easily argue that the season was incomplete and only fair for every one to award no positions. Whereas if you relegate teams on the basis they were bottom after 28 games, even though the competition states 38 games have got to be completed you're opening yourself up to be sued.

Imagine if a team were 2-0 up and the game was abandoned after 60 minutes due to bad weather. Do you just give that the team the victory? Or do you accept that anything could have happened in those last 30 minutes and demand a replay?

Not saying those clubs won't sue as they probably will but their argument will be pretty weak.

All of ye saying just to write off the season - you would be going apoplectic if others were suggesting the same and we were on our way to our first title in decades!

We are 8th and would be 9th on points per game. A (safe) re-start is good for us, especially with Harry & Son back.

Very true mate, but we're not, so fuck Liverpool and right off the season

On the subject of Liverpool and the league, I think however they win it from this point if they even do, it's somewhat tarnished a bit. They'll be winning something that everyone knows they've practically already won, in front of no fans and in a climate where winning something in a sport feels quite insignificant (or even more so) in comparison with what else is currently going on in the world.

Still a great achievement to have the league title to their name, but it couldn't be much further from how they'd have liked to have achieved it I'd imagine. Some may say 'yeah but a league title is a league title' which is true, but from a players personal perspective I'm sure winning anything in this situation will have a somewhat hollow feel to it or just far from the feelings that one should have after winning the premier league.

If football resumes, even behind closed doors, I would fear that Liverpool fans would not be able to stop themselves meeting up to watch them win the title and then congregate at Anfield afterwards when judgement is affected by alcohol, emotion and herd mentality.

You appear to have mis-spelled the word ****

Just ban European football for next year and the decision to finish the season becomes a lot easier.

It wont make a jot of difference, teams can travel on private busses and planes so whether a game is in Glasgow or Lisbon it wont make much difference and it's the same issues we have with the Premier League. There are contracts, obligations and a lot of money riding on there being Europa and Champions League football every season. They will find a way to make it happen.

There will be just as many lawsuits and objections as all the other leagues if they ditch it, except it'll be spread through umpteen different countries and legal languages.

There is still movement between countries right now so it's not as if the borders are closed, things will open up at some point with lots of restrictions so if people can move freely anyway then the travel can happen and the games will happen behind closed doors.

I mean with regard to deciding who qualifies and who doesn’t. If European football was on hold for a year then Liverpool could be given the league with no arguments and we could increase the league by 3 Teams (so no relegation and championship teams can still get promoted). Finally, we don’t need to guess who would have qualified for Europe come the end of the season. I know it would never happen because if the money involved
but makes decisions a lot easier apart from the 3rd team to be promoted from the championship.

I'll assume that you will assume that you will get your seat. What about all the others that haven't missed a game and want to keep the ball rolling, so to speak?

To be honest I'm genuinely more upset for many of them (many of whom are my friends). One guy who hasn't missed a competitive game since the start of the PL. Another who last missed a competitive game in 1984. And yet another who has missed the odd competitive game abroad but none in England since 1964.

Yet I'm one of only 4 people on a run when you include friendly games so I equally feel sorry for the other 3.

So many clubs getting their favoured journos to release differing articles, it’s hard to keep up with the spin and agendas. There seems to be one after the other this week and today.
