The Naming Rights Thread

Naming rights has nowt to do with Bezos net worth. Two different things. However, he of course can greatly influence this decision. Which may be a part of a bigger goal for Bezos... Which is to make Joe Lewis an offer he can't refuse. Take ownership. And then go get himself an NFL team a year or two later.

The latter can certainly financially benefit Amazon to some extent. So it's a little bit more of a vanity project. But the football team? That can be a significant money maker for Amazon, for many obvious reasons. Yet, one not as obvious is making traction with the Asian market. Amazon have struggled a little bit getting a firm foothold in China, in particular. But football, and the PL in particular is HUGE deal in that market. So, having naming rights and owning the team is mutually beneficial to both Bezos (as the club value will increase exponentially) and Amazon creates a back door into the Asian market.

Outside the box thinking is at the heart of what has made them so successful.

Not that any of the above is certain to happen. More likely than not it won't. But i can definitely see the logic behind making such a decision.
Ironic.

Amazon as the stadium sponsor, I will be very disappointed if the stadium announcer doesn't shout at least once a game "Welcome to the Jungle" :)

Amazon should be paying some tax before they're shelling out hundreds of millions on sponsoring a football stadium.

If they sponsor us for hundreds of millions then we will turn some of that into tax payments.

For one year lol. Didn't they put unicef on their shirt just for one year to butter up the fans before getting a sponsor?

My exact thoughts when I saw this. Just a moralistic cover for the Barca board to squeeze more money out of the club in the long term.

Saudi advisor with a portfolio including several clubs just tweeted this picture, thanking his 'friend Daniel Levy' for the book. Maybe naming rights related?

God I hope not. I get that Levy will simply be offering this to everyone and will take whatever's in our financial interests. But for us as the Yids to be financially driven by Jew-hating dictatorships would just be awful.

I've read a few things about this guy and he's done some impressive yet controversial things in Egyptian football: buying a small-time club, rebranding it to Pyramids FC (lol) and pumping it with money and young players from Brazil to make it contend for top 3 every year for the past few years. He doesn't have any experience with clubs of larger stature though, UD Almeria in Spain being his latest project. I'm hoping this is just a case of Levy throwing the bait out for lots of potential investors and seeing who bites as you said.

It would be throwing any moral 'fibre' this club had left directly in the gutter, and there isn't a lot left in modern football. Getting into bed with a state linked to funding terrorism, an abhorrent humans rights record and effectively operating with impunity when it comes to international law, would be hard to stomach.

I'm saying this consciously aware of the 'Western' critique of the Middle East and the ignorance sometimes laden in that of our own atrocities but this would definitely be a potential deal breaker for a number of our supporters.
