Rafael van der Vaart has recalled what he said to Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere after twice nutmegging him in a 3-3 North London derby draw back in 2011.

The English midfielder was just 19-years-old at the time and was dubbed to be one of the star’s of the future, however, was taught a few lessons by the former Real Madrid star.

The World Cup finalist also claimed that joining Tottenham Hotspur back in 2010 was “the best thing” to happen to his career at the time – going on to be a fan’s favorite at White Hart Lane.

In an interview with Four Four Two, the Dutchman spoke about the moment many Spurs fans enjoy watching back as part of the recent history of this famous fixture.

van der Vaart recalled:

“I don’t remember him saying anything to me.

“All I remember is what I said to him afterwards, ‘Close your legs next time!'”

He added on that fixture:

“I had one of my best games that night.

“We went 1-0 down, I scored the equaliser, but then we let in two before pulling it back to 3-3, with me scoring another goal.”

Best career choice
Van der Vaart was adored by the Spurs faithful during his time in North London and he believes choosing to join the club was his best career choice.

He said:

“Joining Spurs was the best thing that happened to me.

However, his time at Spurs was brought to an end in 2012 as he joined SV Hamburg following the arrival of Gylfi Sigurdsson:

“Leaving Tottenham was not by best choice but, apart from that, there haven’t been too many regrets in my career.”

His testimonial is on Ziggo Sport. Gomes and Atouba playing along with many others who didn’t reach their dizzy heights like kluivert, Overmars, Nigel de Jong etc.

Not in my lifetime has a player had such an immediate impact upon arriving at the club (maybe only Klinsmann came close). Absolute legend. Loved him and still gutted about him leaving
