Just paused sky sports subscription very easy to do on website. All 11 channels stay on, payments resume when sports start. You also get credit back on next bill for the advanced payment on this month.

I think we can all agree that human lives are more important than football so no need to repeat it every 4 or 5 posts (imho). I tend to think that football is pretty low down the priority list even when there isn't a global pandemic so it's a pretty easy outlook to adopt!

What the PL are doing in there statements are what most of us are doing on here; coming onto a football forum to talk about football doesn't mean that we think football is more important than people's lives and that's the same for the PL. They are just talking about their options and batting a few ideas around the table.

There is a money chain involved here but we should remember that it ends with the clubs. Viewers pay Sky, who in turn pay the PL for a quota of games, who in turn pay the clubs. If the league season is voided you can be sure the viewers will want a partial refund, so Sky ask the PL for a refund then the PL ask the clubs for a refund. Some clubs will be 100% reliant on that money - others will have already spent it - so servicing that chain of refunds could put clubs out of business. I imagine this is why the option of completing the season is the preference.

The real answer is that we have to wait and see how this thing progresses. There will come a time when this season is past saving and potentially a time when next season is as well. And whilst the people who organise football understand that lives are more important etc. all they can do for now is put on a brave face with their announcements.

I did this a couple of days ago but they were very vague about what my subscription would be when Sport returns. Suppose I just cross that bridge when I come to it.

I think the only point at which they will consider scrapping the current season is when the revenue for next season starts to be effected to the same or greater extent than that of not completing this one.

So, a lot of clubs are going to be at-risk financially because of this. But it wouldn't be proper for the Government to be seen giving them a bailout. So here's an alternative idea. The clubs should all be given whatever tax their players have paid this season. Obviously none of the millionaire footballers are stealing from us by dodging their taxes, so that should mean every club recoups 45% of their wage bill and will be absolutely fine. And if any of them were, it turns out, helping millionaires steal from the NHS, schools etc, then they deserve to go to the wall and we need a reboot of our national game for the common man anyway.

Exactly they are better off losing 1/4 revenue than as some have suggested a half next season.

Not necessarily at all.
All depends what next season looks like.

Premier League could for example reduce to a 19 game season, and instead of giving 4 games a week to TV, put 8 games a week on TV, playing almost every night of week, to meet the games quota, and therefore lose no TV revenue potentially for either season.
All depends what the contract looks like.

German expert warns there may be no more football ... this year
A virologist in Germany has warned that it is “not realistic” to expect football to return in 2020.
That’s right, no more football for the rest of the year.
Professor Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit of the Bernhard-Nocht-Institut in Hamburg insisted he cannot see football returning in Germany before the winter.

“We see the situation in Europe right now and what is still ahead of us, and even if it doesn’t hit us badly, that doesn’t mean football can resume,” Schmidt-Chanasit warned.

English football has been suspended until the start of May but leagues around Europe are still aiming to finish their seasons by 30 June.
Schmidt-Chanasit is very doubtful that can happen.
“Obviously the return of football would significantly aggravate the situation,” he stressed.
“Even games behind closed doors would tempt people to meet up again and watch games together.

“There are a lot of things that have to be decided sooner if you want to loosen the measures. Really important things, like kindergartens.
“But the fun events must come last, especially those where you have the potential for people to meet up. That shouldn’t be underestimated in football.”

Totally agree, there are different titles on this forum that give a clue about what the subject matter is. This one is about football being cancelled and when it might start up again. We all know people’s lives are the most important thing but please let people talk about what they want to talk about on each forum without the same ‘people are dying!’ response. We all know it’s tragic but sometimes we need to switch off from the panic and distract ourselves with some football talk.

With the latest predictions suggesting the social isolation regulations are likely to be in place for at least 6 months. If true I'm not sure when the season starts again especially if ambulances aren't released to attend games.

Disastrous if true. I’ve been hoping that perhaps things could start up behind closed doors by some time in May, but that’s purely from a selfish point of view as domestic football across UK is a big chunk of my revenue. Just really don’t know what to say. As Trix said, football should be low on the list of priorities for fans, but there’s a lot of jobs, careers and livelihoods at stake with regards to it and other sports.

Now we all miss our live football and live sport in general and obviously completely understand the reasons the only thing I really can't stand is the amount of ex players saying " the league must be completed for the integrity of football " that statement alone confirms what I have always said and that is there is no integrity in football . Football and integrity are two words that do not go hand in hand .
If football people want to show integrity or even common decency they should be saying " football is on the back burner and whatever the authorities say should happen regards the game I go along with 100% .

Well yeah but liverpool innit.
If it was us they would have the season over in a nano second.
That's all I have seen on sky sports news for days scousers or ex pool players saying ,for the sake of the game and the games integrity blah blah blah transparent as fuck.
This will ho down in history as the year football became more important than health and lives. :cautious:
People wonder why I hate them this amongst all the other shit is why.

Wonder how long sky sports can survive with no subscriptions. They’ve made it very easy to pause the payment. They also seem utterly deluded as to when football will start again. They are definitely pushing hard that the season must be completed, for obvious beneficial reasons to them. Imagine the chaos if they couldn’t fulfill the current deal that clubs have handed players 5 year deals based on.
On another note the relaxing of FFP may be bad news for us. Will completely limit the impact on say Chelsea. But have a feeling Arsenal and West Ham will be in trouble. Arsenal are the most dependant club on gate receipts and also have high wage bill, plus Kroenke will have a massive headache committed to a $5bn stadium build that’s half finished. And West Ham are just a shockingly run club and Sullivan has probably lost a fortune on the markets and they have no tangible assets to loan against.

I hate to say it but the 5bn stadium won't be affected/stan kroenke will be fine. I live in LA and I am a pretty big NFL fan. The NFL has nearly gotten to the point where each team is making 1bn a SEASON! So with guarenteed revenue coming in with that (and the profit is still rising) they will be able to continue to spend money on Arsenal sadly

As someone said a while ago, of all the things in the world that aren’t important, football is the most important.
