I honestly don't think he's done at this level, just think it takes longer at that age for you to get up to speed.

He has looked leggy rather than at the end IMO, and the last couple of games he has started to look more like the Jan we know and love.

Lets face it if Pochettino's training regime was as much of a grind as is made out, it explains why most of our once vibrant team now looks one paced (jog being that pace) after years of it...

He played well yesterday. His crossing was ok at times although he wasted a few crosses then again he has nothing to aim for

I thought he played well
The problem is this..
If we let him go then we have Alderwerield, Sanchez, Dier and Tanganga at CB. That's zero Left sided players. We would almost definitely have to get another high level CB to come in

We need 2 new centre backs. As well as 2 new full backs, a holding player and a striker.

Is it me or has Jan looked like he's got a bit of life back in his legs the last couple of games?
He has, but to little to late he is done at Spurs imo his not a leader and frankly speaking we need more pace in the team.

Probably something to do with this - must have been horrible for his wife and kids.

Jan Vertonghen’s machete horror: Spurs star’s family hit by Champions League raid
FOUR armed men who broke into the home of Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen and terrified his family while he was away on Champions League duty are being hunted by police.

His wife Sophie De Vries and their two young children, a boy and a girl, were inside the house just before 8pm last Tuesday when the masked raiders burst in and demanded cash and valuables. They struck while the 32-year-old Belgian footballer was sitting on the substitutes’ bench for Spurs against RB Leipzig in the second leg of their last 16 match in Germany, which they lost 4-0 on aggregate. A source close to Spurs said: “They were masked and carrying weapons, including knives and machetes, and demanded to know where the cash and valuables were.

“Jan’s wife was obviously terrified and did as she was told. The group carried out a search and fled with electronic items.
“Thankfully I don’t believe anyone was hurt. The family were obviously terrified, especially given Jan was away with the Spurs squad.
“The police carried out a scene examination. Some officers did door-to-door checks to warn people and ask if anyone had seen anything as Jan’s family were not the only victims and at least one neighbour had been targeted too.”
The Met Police said there were no reports of similar burglaries in the same road in north-west London, on the same day.
A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called to a residential address in NW3 at 7.49pm on March 10 to a report of a burglary.
“Officers attended. It was reported four men wearing balaclavas, armed with knives, had forced entry to the property and stolen a number of items before leaving.

“Nobody was injured. The suspects had left the scene before officers arrived. There have been no arrests and inquiries continue.”

Police are not currently linking it with any other crimes.
A spokesman for Spurs said: “We have been supporting Jan and his family through this terribly traumatic time and we encourage anyone who has any information to come forward to help the police with their investigation.”
Vertonghen is the latest in a long list of football players to have their homes targeted while they are away playing.
It is suspected organised gangs establish where players live then monitor fixtures before planning the raids.
Last December burglars broke into the south-west London home of Crystal Palace defender, Mamadou Sakho, 30, who was away with his family, ahead of his team’s clash with Southampton.
Valuables worth more than £500,000 were taken.
In February last year Senegalese Liverpool player Sadio Mane, 27, had his home burgled during the Champions League draw with Bayern Munich. He was playing at Anfield when a gang forced entry into his Merseyside home between 6pm and 11.45pm.

Luxury watches, mobile phones and car keys were among the items stolen. Players living in the north-west of England have been specifically targeted during the past 15 years with Dirk Kuyt, Pepe Reina, Robbie Keane, Jermaine Pennant and Lucas Leiva all victims of burglary while playing for Liverpool.
Steven Gerrard was one of the earliest victims when his home was targeted during a Champions League match in 2007.
The gang demanded his wife, Alex, hand over jewellery and the contents of a safe or else they would “take her kids”. Ex-England captain Wayne Rooney’s Cheshire mansion was burgled while he was playing in August 2016.
Other victims have included Daniel Agger and Jerzy Dudek, while Peter Crouch and wife Abbey Clancy have been victims on two separate occasions.
The crime spree has also happened on the Continent and last October Spanish police revealed they had arrested four Albanians on suspicion of carrying out a series of burglaries at the homes of footballers while they were playing matches.
Footballers such as Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey, striker Alvaro Morata, and Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane, were thought to have been victims.

Hardly any teams pair a left footed CB with a right footed one. Sanchez plays LCB for Columbia. VDV (right footed CB) plays LCB for Liverpool. It is not important as long as they are not obviously one footed like some forward payers are.

"But Vertonghen is two years older and is suffering from an increasing number of injuries, including ankle problems."

If he does have ankle probs it all makes sense as to his sudden back-seat role.
