It's about time someone was called out for being a prick, most of the things people shout in the stands they would never dare say to a players face or anyone's face for that matter. Actions have consequences, Eric's brother had every right to call the idiot out and Dier had every right to protect his brother, family first.

Good to see that both the political left and right are turning the spotlight on the real issue at heart here.

I hear that the Utd fans were abusing Jesse Lingard as well last night and someone apparently called him the N word. What gives these people the right to shout abuse at footballers and think they can get away with it?

People have seemingly forgotten that free speech doesn't equally mean you have the right to offend. By all means, say what you want, but don't act surprised when you suffer the consquences for your actions.

I hope Dier knows the majority of the fans back him 100%. You have to wonder if some of the crowd simply are jealous and resent footballers, the abuse they take is just odd particularly from their own fans.

I had to disagree with this view entirely.

He hasn’t lost his head, if anything kept it calm, all video footage shows him going up, grabbing his brother, shouting over the noise and getting him out of the place.

Whether it’s my brother, son, dad, mother - I’m never walking by knowing they were in some kind of altercation, regardless of job, location or my own safety.

it’s just how I’ve been brought up, family first.

he absolutely did the right thing by going up there and getting his brother out of that situation.

to say he let people down is just plain wrong.

do you have brothers, or close family?

could you sit there and listen to them get abused?

I couldn’t and won’t.

funnily enough I deal with this on a level, so I probably understand the frustration a little more how frustrating it can be watching a family member play football and the reaction of fans, both sides have towards said family member.

must hard to hear - currently I take myself away from those situations , sometimes in a stadium environment you can’t. It ain’t nice hearing reasonably negative stuff about your family imduring a football match, let alone horribly negative stuff let alone plain abuse.

the so called spurs fan must have know what dier does when you say stuff about his team...to have a go at his brother....asking for trouble:

The only outcome I'm willing to accept: once the fan is identified, Dier gets to visit his place of work, stand behind the bloke and then scream a torrent of abuse at him while he goes about doing whatever it is he gets paid to do. The fan's brother (any close relative will do), should be sat there too, just so he can enjoy Dier's expert critique of the guys work performance. That should even things up nicely.

Is that part of the meet and greet service that comes with the £60k tunnel club membership?

Actually these corporates want exactly this - an element of danger. They probably spend 10's of thousands going big game hunting and trips down crocodile infested waters every year to get the same sort of thrill.
If someone nearly gets their arm bitten off, all the better as it makes it real.

Levy just needs to rename tunnel club to something like Jurassic Park to convey the sense of danger.
“Dier will not be contained. He breaks free. He expands to new territories, crashes through barriers, painfully, maybe even dangerously.”

I believe what they earn has a lot do with it.

Far to many fans are just air heads.

I pay my money, I can say and do what I like attitude.

What would you do if you saw your brother in trouble?

Love Eric Dier. Great attitude and he clearly really cares. If our more skilful players showed the same attitude we’d be cruising right now. I reckon there’ll be plenty of love from the travelling fans tomorrow evening.

Nothing will ever beat Cantona drop kicking a fan. That was awesome. Dier would be more of an legend if he'd managed to chin the wally.

Bet noone gives it large from the stands to Troy Deeney or erm..... Cantwell....

Or I drink my beer, and I can't control myself. Which is really poor class to not be able to hold your liquor. Every stadium bastard, whether tall or short, old or young, has a profound beer belly, clearly never hits the gym, wouldn't even work up a sweat if his lives depended on it, and then stands tall (they always fucking have to stand) and scream out some drunken shit announcing how useless professional athletes are. So many times I've been wanting to say "Sorry dude, but how useful do YOU feel?". Really, if it wasn't for the revenue, PL would do the decent thing and completely separate live football from alcohol.

Jenas on 5Live Friday Night Club atm, totally backing Dier over this entire incident.
If you can track it down and listen to it, please do as he's only going up in my estimations.
Really worth a listen.

They think they can get away with it because there's so many people around them. People like that just hide inside the crowd shouting stuff they wouldn't even have the balls to say otherwise. This guy running off just shows how much of a coward he really is.

Personally I’d love to see Dier get the chance to smash that ‘fan’ into pieces. And I thought he was quite restrained given the circumstances, but clearly let his emotions cloud his judgement (even if understandable), by going into the stand in the first place.

The FA have to act and set a precedence. They simply can’t have players going into the crowd to confront fans. Whatever the provocation. The same way you can’t have fans entering the playing area to confront a player or official (even if non-violent). So Dier will get a ban - I cannot see anyway he can swerve it.

I hope the club name and shame the idiot who caused it all, and ban him.
