One of the reasons our players are so tired isn't just our injuries (look at how many games Wolves have played with a similar squad size if not smaller). It's because of our style of play.

We surrender possession and chase the ball across our own half for large periods, shuffling constantly from side to side. Constantly defending requires a high amount of focus, this is incredibly tiring when you are doing it for large periods.

Then when we do eventually win it, we are so deep that we have to run 40/50/60/70 yards upfield to try and put together any meaningful attack. Every single time. This drains our stamina massively and it's one of the reasons we are seeing even worse decision making than usual in the final third.

It's a constant drain on our players, they are constantly either in full focus trying to defend deep or flying up-field like lunatics to try and counter-attack over massive distances. Simply not sustainable and bear in mind we were doing this even when we had Kane and Son.

The best counter-attacking teams, teams like Pool and Leicester for example are both excellent, they both mix up their counter-attacks with periods of possession play, in which they control the match, keep the ball, slow/speed up the tempo, make the opposition chase the ball around the pitch to tire them out. They make the opposition do the work for large periods, which leaves them tired and exposed for more focused and timed counter-attacks.

They also often win the ball back mid block and spring from a slightly higher position, with less ground to cover.

It's the turgid, risk averse, submissive and insipid football that he serves up is the biggest concern. It's the square peg in round hole team tactics and formation that is alarming. All i'm asking is for the players that he has available are played to their strengths.
U make it sound so simple haha.

The year Leicester won the title I strongly believe if we had mourinho in charge we would of got over the finish line in 1st. Poch had the best Tottenham team in the last 2 decades and didn’t win anything. Mourinho would of simple as that. I love Poch but he’s still a nearly man Until he wins some silverware.

Don't think you can say that.... We may not have got in that position with Jose to begin with.

We wouldn't even have been up there in the first place as he'd never have been able to build the team Poch built on a shoe-string budget!

I guess will never know, but someone like mourinho is a born winner and would inject that into the players. Poch always has doubts a winner doesn’t have doubts. They just win. The only reason we didn’t win the title that year was because the manager didn’t think the players could win. I’m probably going to get hounded but this is what I believe.

I have mentioned this previously, all we are doing is chasing down constantly chasing and trying to catch up with play. No wonder we are knackered.

No problem onder our players are playing anywhere close to their best and no wonder players seem frustrated.

I also mentioned that Jose needs improve in his approach to bring out the best of the players.

Great post; been trying to make this point, but never managed to do it so eloquently.

Really feared for Sons hamstrings at one point where all he did was to chase fullbacks and then sprint 70 yards to join attacks.

Ah, Wolves squad size, and the usual Liverpool and Leicester counter attacking take.

Let's ignore Wolves playing, in spells, similar to us, sit deep and hit on the break - they did it for large periods against us and Leicester and Liverpool - funnily enough two teams on poor form themselves (Leicester breaking that the other night in a hugely impressive 1-0 win)

Wolves having suffered very little from injuries and a settled squad. Liverpool having been elite for most of the season and not suffering much on the injury front up until the last month (interesting pattern here) and Leicester - funnily enough looking good while the squad was settled and not missing a key component of that team that had helped them play that exact way.

Fast forward to now and key components go missing and form dips and they struggle for results ...

Now, I'm not an expert like some on here, but I'd go as far to say that if you miss key pieces to play the game you want to play, the team and your form suffers ... I could be wrong though.

Well we do know because Mourinho has to spend money to be successful. We also know for a fact that Poch didn't need to spend money to be successful, he coached players to improve them instead and was one of the best coaches at doing that.

Honestly the ungrateful attitude towards a manager that did so much for us and raised our profile and belief of what we could achieve, is quite frankly a disgrace. Just because we didn't win a TrOPhY, we forget all the things he did for us.

This level of entitlement and lack of gratitude deserves to be punished with the shit we are seeing now in all honesty.

I used to hear this trotted out all the time mid Poch reign on here when people weighed in on the man himself ... Nothing changes mate.

Jesus I have no disrespect for Poch and loved what he done for us. But the truth is football is merited on winning silverware and that’s what people remember in our history. They don’t remember someone that bought the best out of youth to nearly win a trophy. Like I said he was a great man but he didn’t get us over the finish line On multiple occasions.
