And I’ll stand by that. Humiliating the European champions with Bale in full flow. I’d put beating Real Madrid at Wembley up there too. Watching your team spank the best in the world playing amazing football.

Those nights did more for us as a club than beating Nottingham forest in the fa cup
That was a different time though. The FA cup meant a lot back then and that was before we reached the crossroads where we could have progressed but failed to under Sugar.

It could be argued that the modern European competitions are ruining the domestic game.
European nights are fantastic but the domestic leagues are where the history is.

When did he come close? Even if he cane close he then began to decline.
The results were shit. It seems the champions league final is clouding peoples judgement.

I would put Jose in the same category as Klopp and Poch and dont think Poch deserves to be in the same bracket.

We got to a champions league final. heavily involved 2 title races, a league cup final and a FA cup semi (maybe 2?), and over the period of a calendar year had the best, highest scoring team in the country -- all in the era of a the mega spending oil clubs.

If people are really complaining about that period for a club that hasnt won a major trophy for 30 years or the league for 50/60 and had qualified for the CL once before then they are in for a life of disappointment.

It died a sad pathetic death at the end, but fuck me, if you are complaining about that period as a Spurs fan I suggest you give up football now because we aint overhauling Liverpool, City and co anytime in our lives.

In short, wouldnt swap for Joses Europa success in that period.

Look at the Uefa cup. That was a massive achievement back in 84 because that trophy really meant something. Now it's CL CL CL.

Wigan won the FA cup not so long ago, as did Portsmouth and where are they now?

The only trophies worth winning are the league and the champions league.

Jose won’t win those so why settle for the negative football?

Because of the money obviously that's why club owners want it probably eventually we will have a European elite league of the top 15 club sides in Europe.

I think you're in a tiny minority mate, cos I bloody am.

The game is about glory.

Youre just a fan mate, you dont get glory if Kane scored a winning cup final goal he does. You get bragging rights for a week or two because you like a team that won a cup.

The game is about entertainment.

The europa league is proper shit though. Saying that, if we are in it next year I want us to win it
Of course because football is a competition and the end result of being in a competition is winning the trophy.

We might do although that's been touted for longer than I care to remember - more than 20 years.

The clubs are nowhere because they weren't run very well.
But I bet you that every Wigan and Pompey fan can tell you where they were though.
Cup wins are fantastic moments for us fans because we live in that moment.

Mind if I keep this on copy mate!

winner of thread post in my opinion!
What? He wins the best thread post and the internet on the same day...? That's just unfair. Some people spend thousands of dollars a year on buying lottery tickets and taking writing lessons and never win a damn thing.

Hrrrumph.

I understand that one night in the sun is amazing. My point is though that it’s not worth putting up with a negative, boring, pragmatic, fall asleep football all season just to win and FA cup.

The champions League has ruined football and warped fans expectations. Finishing the fourth best team in the league has more prestige than actually winning something. What's the point of making the champions League money if all we spend it on is getting top four again.

F**k the bragging rights. I have watched highlights of our FA cup 91 win and our UEFA cup 84 win many times over the years. I just love the fact that we won those trophies.

Same domestically. Watched Greavsie the other night and had old players saying they never grew up dreaming of winning the league, it was always dreaming of playing in the cup final. Biggest game of the domestic calendar by a mile, no other game came close. Nowadays we’ve got Liverpool fielding youth teams in the competition against Everton...

Liverpool 5-1 in front of 60,000 Spurs fans , being 3-0 up against Real under champions league floodlights, smashing Inter, Ajax comeback > beating Leicester in Worthington cup final i cant even remember.

Is that what Liverpool did? Oh no they got to the champions league final then won it the next season along with the league ??‍♂️

That’s why you want top 4 to allow you steady progress to allow you to attract the best players which eventually leads to you winning the real trophies
