Christian Eriksen says he was "the black sheep" at Tottenham for being "very honest" over running his contract down at the club.

The main reason the fans turned on him was his form. We’re not stupid. He’s still trying to treat us like we are. Sure, there would be a backlash from some fans if it happened the way he said it did, but nothing quite like the one you get when you don’t give your all when you pull on the shirt. He was paid in full and he sold us short.

Much like his corners.

Christian, take a look at Luka Modric. Despite wanting to leave his performances never dipped and he was only left out for a match or two due to his head not being in the right place when he didn't get the move he wanted.

If you had followed his example you could have left - most probably to Real or Barca as you so desired - with your head held high and in more fond regard.

For me it was a management thing from Poch to Levy, still getting pick when he was clearly out of form but also not getting a replacement in over the last few years.
I liked how Jose used him, only when needed.
All being said I have no ill feeling towards him and thank him for what he has given us over all the years and wish him well.

Very interesting how he said any of the players would have thought about leaving in the last few years. Fall out with Poch? Annoyance over Levy wages?

Loved you as a player, one of my favourites, but the last 12 months showed you as the unprofessional weasel you are. Stop doing interviews and focus on how to take a corner and your fucking hairline you cheap Barry Manilow wannabe.

No problem with your honesty mate but as a fan, I want to see all players putting in 100%. I’m sure you’ll agree you didn’t do that this season and that’s why the fans became displeased

He’s speaking the truth. Ridiculous from a lot of our fans to blame him on our bad form and CL final. And that so many said/say he was toxic in the dressing room when Poch and Jose said he was 100% professional and when he left almost every player posted a picture of him on social media and still they say he was toxic when it’s the other way round

And his poor form this season could be because of many reasons. His surgery, being tired, lost his confidence, playing in a different position etc

Firstly I love Luka but let’s not forget he tried to force a move to Chelsea

Secondly would Luka perform as well if he had a surgery, was tired, played in a different position, lost some of his confidence, the whole team playing poor?

You could put this narrative against a lot of the squad I reckon. Eriksen says as much there. Danny Rose said it even plainer, over 2 years ago.

That's the whole point. Both tried to force a move but only one let that affect their performance.
The whole team dipped though. The squad was stale, and whether you blame Poch or Levy things needed to change. I’m sure when a bit of time has passed Eriksen will be able to concede his form dipped but he’s hardly the only one

But this thread is about Eriksen? There are plenty of factors - from the top down - as to why the team has struggled over the last 12 months. My initial reply was solely based on his lazy, disinterested approach to life at Spurs during that time. Poor form can be excused, laziness less so.

I will never be mad at a player leaving because they want a new challenge or for money. Soccer/Football's career length is not that long so you gotta make smart/calculated moves with your career to ensure you make the most amount of money over the longest amount of time you possibly can. Does it suck that his form dipped massively over the last 18 months yes but if that's the case we should of had someone like lo celso 2 years ago to slot in and take his place. Time heals all wounds (other than that judas ****) and I expect everyone will feel better about the situation in a couple of years

Sounds like he was a lot clearer with the club than his comments that came out in the press. Didn't he say he'd sign a new deal if RM/Barca didn't come in for him, then, when they didn't, he wouldn't.

Nail on head, people thought he stopped trying in his final year, he didn't. His playing style was exactly the same as before but people started to notice it and look for faults when he wouldn't sign a contract. His form did dip but so did many other players but he was painted the bad guy just because he was open about leaving which many fans didn't like.

Hehe sounds like he was about to say the derby games in Italy are not as big as in England, but backtracked and started talking about the flags. Maybe I’m wrong though.
