I submit that Son is a better No. 9 than any we've been linked to this window. True enough he's not the hold-up man that Jose desired, but then neither is Piatek who was seemingly the primary target for most of the window. Son is a better player than Piatek by far and the club is better off having not succumbed to the temptation to panic buy.

Jose will simply have to adjust to playing without a striker who is good with his back to goal. He'd have had to have done that anyway even if we'd gotten the player we chased for the whole window in.
I reckon we might also see Parrott more when he turns 18 and (hopefully) signs a long term contract.

What worries me is that up until now he has played Lucas there instead.

Just have this feeling that Levy might still have something up his sleeve before the window shuts. Still a while to go yet so keep the faith.

I totally agree, perhaps Levy shouldn't have appointed a manager if he doesn't seem to have the tactical flexibility to cope with injuries.

If we keep the ball better in midfield and push Alli or Lamela as a false 9, we can build with passing on the deck and balls in the channels for our wing forwards, rather than just lumping it forwards.

It's not just about tactical flexibility, it's about having basic tools for footballing philosophy of manager. Kloppo or Pep woulddn't be happy and couldn't cope if they didn't have squad that fits their game. Down to Levy.

Our manager has said we have no strikers. We are not coached by Pochettino any more, they see the game differently clearly. Levy has to support Mourinho's vision.

If there is no one available that Mourinho thinks is good enough what the fuck is Levy supposed to do?

It’s ridiculous everyone constantly blaming Levy. January is a difficult month for quality signings. Chelsea, Man U and Barce are all desperate for strikers and have deeper pockets than us. And guess what? They haven’t managed to sign anyone either. It’s irrational to just blame the club when it’s common fact quality signings are hard to come by in Jan.

FFS how many more times am I going to see this tonight. They are absolutely not in the same boat with regards to strikers. By Mourinho's own definition we have zero, United have two and Chelsea have three.
If United have two than we have 3. It's actually possible that United really don't have any depending on what if you consider Rashford as a striker.

Kane = Rashford
Son, Moura, Bergwijn = Martial
Parrott = Greenwood

Yep, im usually pessimistic about our transfers but have a feeling we'll still bring someone in.

A striker would've been nice but equally signing someone we're not convinced by leaves is another situation like we had with Janssen where we're struggling to get a a player off the books that isn't good enough.

My view is that signing Bergwijn frees up Son to play as a proper striker from here as Stevie B plays best as a left sided wing forward. He will bring goals and assists himself. It also frees up Lucas to go back to the right wing where he's better than he is up front.

Keep your expectations low for rest of season and let's see what happens.

This is such bollocks. We've committed ourselves to playing the rest of the season in three competitions without a fucking striker. Considering Mourinho doesn't see Son as a CF, that leaves us with Lucas Moura pissing about hopelessly as our main forward for the next 4 months.

Not quite a new low for our recruitment strategy, but further confirmation that it's utterly shite.

If I was the coach i'd agree with you about Son, Lucas and Bergwijn. But i'm not so you've missed my point. Jose has been vocal about how important getting a number 9 is.

What? He is 22... He will play this season.
Not sure I understand your point? I was replying to the following;

Chelsea have 3 strikers and so do united and united may well sign King and out need is much much greater.
There are several players we clearly looked at and would only do a loan. But spent money on SB. Makes no sense. There are no excuses

robertobaggio was saying that we were unwilling to spend money on the players we looked at for a loan (Piatek & Willian Jose presumably) which made no sense as we were happy to for out for Bergwijn.

My point was that Bergwijn is a forward thinking signing, of course he will play this season. He bloody better do, and hopefully as soon as Sunday, but he's part of our rebuild. The strikers were not, they were short term options to fill a void left by Kane's injury, which is exactly why we didn't look to spend silly sums on them!

Jose has been vocal about plenty of absolute bollocks. His word is not gospel. It was obviously an attempt to put pressure on signing another striker. We didn't.

Do you honestly think the likes of Giroud would really make that huge of a difference? I don't. We have a tough uphill battle ahead of us either way.

A striker coming in means we could sneak CL.

None coming in I just couldn't see it. And would prefer to miss out on Europa altogether.

We've needed a striker for more than this window, we've needed one since the summer.

I know it's not straightforward, but really, I don't think there's any excuse if we have two full windows to fill that hole.

Happy with the signings we've made, but it's difficult, even as someone who was relatively supportive of Levy, to not see the lack of ambition and follow through from the club here.

Still hopeful of something but the lack of serious investment in the squad is hugely frustrating.

SNIPPET TO THE TWO DEALS WE DONE

1. This remarkable GF 18 month deal, all down to JM and his relationship with Benfica. JM, and I agree believes he will be a massive success. He has known him since a kid. What age I don’t know
2. SB, was his contacts and agent’s homework. Given to DL to dot the ‘i’s’ and cross the ‘t’s’
3. WJ was his suggestion

I like the insight, thanks.

But ‘remarkable’?
