I’d say the fact that Levy brought in Jose fucking Mourinho and refuses to back him with anything more than loans with no obligation— which by definition are basically just castaways — is shocking, but it isn’t with Levy.

I think we can dispense with all the “was it Levy or was it Poch’s stubbornness” chat. Levy is constitutionally incapable of backing a manager.

So you'd rather we spend all our funds on the wrong players in January, rather than potentially wait for the right ones in the summer

Who else do you think is available mid-season that isn't a "castaway"?

You sound surprised?

Its the same every transfer window! It starts with positive ITK and news being leaked from the club that money is there to be spent then as the window draws to a close it all starts to become more negative.. We haven't reached the "well we really tried to sign such and such a player but the deals were too hard to do" stage yet!

Not really a discussion for this thread, I'll send you a private message if you're genuinely interested in good faith in a list of players who might be available. To keep it to ITK, we've had info linking us with Soumare, widely regarded as a big prospect, and his club are reported to be practically pushing him out the door because they want the money. There's no shortage of selling clubs in world football, this automatic belief that there's never any business to be done in January doesn't necessarily square with clubs' actual financial positions.

It is classic Levy. We need a takeover.

So all that we have money to spend stories we heard from various sources including the likes of hoddle and sugar seems to have just been a line that was fed to appease us then.

Not sure I agree. Ndombele (£62m), Lo Celso (£55m), Sessegnon (£25m), Clarke (£10m), Gedson (£45m) has seen us potentially commit to nearly £200m's worth of new players in the space of what 6-7 months?

Yes a couple are loans but if we like them we need to stump up and they are all currently wearing the white shirt if we want them to do so so they are somewhat a commitment from us.

Daniel ****** looking at loan with option/s, but no obligation ?

For such an astute businessman, does he really understand forecasting and loss prevention when it comes to the footballing side? He incentivises Jose with a £2m bonus if we get CL qualification, but doesn't seem to realise about the compounded negative effects of continuing to not invest and continuing to do it all on a shoe string (relative to the profits we're reporting). Obvious he does, but an old dog can't learn new tricks and all that.

Yup expect the usual crap leaked from the club regarding money/targets every window.

Wasn’t there ITK a few days back (Hercules I believe) that we are still looking at a midfielder too?
Plus the mystery Portuguese player in his mid twenties (not BF) that Dragon alluded to.
Maybe that’s why Piatek is being targeted as a loan only initially, saving any potential cash for another signing.

If?! When?! CE goes (Please God), looking to possibly bringing in another midfielder in the more defensive mould, who can play also

Mega tenuous but glad we're looking to invest in an area we as a forum are all pining for.

Thank fucking God. We’re desperate for a player of this type. It’d unlock Ndombele, Lo Celso, Gedson, Winks, damn near every midfielder in the squad would be far better off flanking a true No. 6 rather than operating alongside another non-defensive player in a CM2. Absolute music to my ears, fingers crossed we’re actually serious about this.

Most of that was funded by Poch and the gang getting to the Champions League final. That also doesn't take into account that those are the signings of two summers worth and not one and also as you say two of those deals are loans and we haven't actually spent the full amounts yet.

Anyway your response wasn't really the point I was making. I was more making the point of hey remember when were told that it was our managers fault that we weren't spending because there absolutely was money to spend and it's on him.

And for fuck sake lets all not bring up that Poch was apparently turning down players left and right because the only 2 names we had were Tielemans which meant we got Ndombele and Maddison who has been vocal in how much he hated the club. Judging by the deals we're scrambling round for now I doubt any of the players he was rejecting were world beaters.

Still in for Piatek so I heard this afternoon.
When you heard that it wasn't prefixed with "I hope to God we are" was it? :)
I don't know how good this guy is but from what I've seen of him he looks a proper centre forward so just what we could have done with this afternoon.
