This thread. If in doubt i always check the 'Today's Most Popular Posts' sidebar, the answer to what people are talking about usually lies there, unless Bomber has been posting in the picture thread at just past midnight again.

Think I read somewhere that Google want to start going into living market, so like Google Flats and houses. Hence the rebrand of the 'google home' to 'Nest'. Bit dystopian, but I would also agree they'd be interested in the area as a gentrification spot with the club as the centre piece

New ownership will likely not provide a massive change in investment. Maybe a little more, but we will not turn into a Man City. New ownership is a massive risk that could end very badly for us. Truth is most owners are completely incompetent in football. Enic now what they are doing. For me if a takeover were to happen I'd fear the worst.

You got that Stockholm syndrome thing I think.

The reported price which is said to be around £2billion seems beyond a price anyone would see as viable, it would for instance make more sense to buy a cheeper option and invest money in it wouldn't it? For that reason it may be more of an investment in rather than a takeover of the club, perhaps buying 30% of the club. That way Enic realises a large part of its asset and the investor gets a venue for whatever it wants to use it for. I'm not really knowledgeable on these businesses matters but this makes sense to my innocent little mind.

This is ridiculous. People getting excited because they think a very rich company will treat our club like a plaything. None of it makes sense. They have no reason to buy a relatively unprofitable club when they have never dabbled in sport before.

And it’s based on the flimsiest of rumours.

I think some folks are making some assumptions about ownership.
No company per say would take over a club. There's a few reasons why this is not permissible. However, they can strike a sponsorship deal for whatever they want. Eg: Google may decide to give Levy the 400m ten year naming rights he's been whoring around.
That doesn't preclude one of or both the major google shareholders (page and Brin, both worth over 60bn, from launching a takeover bid).

They're more likely to uproot it and take it back brick by brick stateside. London Bridge we are not, right?

How are we an unprofitable club? We're the 8th richest club in the world according to last week's report from Deloitte. The new stadium is also finished and turns over more than a million pound profit each game on food & drink alone! Plus we reported our record profits and kit deal last year. Sounds very profitable to me!!!!!!

It still isn’t going to be Google, Alphabet, Sergey, Larry or Eric.

if you can tell me how a sports venture fits in with the portfolio that includes; Google, Calico, GV, CapitalG, X, Google Fiber, Sidewalk Labs, Verily, Waymo, Wing and Loon I might become only 99% certain that I’m right.

If anything, it is much more likely that Google will be interested in a naming rights deal (Stadia Tottenham Hotspur perhaps), however even that is a stretch as it doesn’t add any marketing value to what is the worlds largest ad platform.

In 2014 they acquired a medtech firm and a few online advertising companies. Otherwise in all the hundreds of acquisitions they’ve made, all have been tech. They have contributed to the core business and in some cases billions to their value.

And now they’re going to make their second largest acquisition ever (more expensive than acquiring YouTube) to buy a foreign football club??

The way to make a small fortune
by investing in a football club

is to start with a large fortune

It's as easy as ABC.

You only make money from football
by not spending any.
